Saints miss out as Flood heads for Tannadice
May 28, 2007
eircom League of Ireland leaders St Patrick’s Athletic have missed out on Cardiff City and Republic of Ireland under-21 winger Willo Flood, who will instead join Scottish Premier League side Dundee United on a season-long loan this summer.
St Pats manager John McDonnell was said to be interested in a loan move for the young Dubliner, but the SPL side have beaten the Saints boss to the punch.
Flood has been unable to make a sustained first-team breakthrough at Ninian Park since joining the Bluebirds from Manchester City last year.
The 22-year-old started just five Coca-Cola Championship games for Dave Jones’s side during the course of the campaign.
He has one season remaining on his current deal, and will need to impress in the SPL next season if he is to land a new contract at the Welsh club.
Would have been a fantastic signing for the league not just Pats.
