Really poor looking team

Long is far from muck though.

Happy with that team tbh. No harm in experimenting.

Great to see Joe Gamble start the match.

I agree it is a weak defence. I think Bennet did ok in the last game but changing 2 of the back 4 plus the keeper maybe not the best idea.

Long started on the right side of midfield in the last game but looked much better when moved up front.

FFS, it goes without saying that it's a weak defence.
It's squad rotation for this tour, so as many players as possible get involved. Very good managerial move.

Agree with geysir , fair play to Stan might as well see as many players involved as possible.

Is Murphy not a left full?

Yip, think he is.

Is Murphy not a left full?

Since when did that matter to Stan?

Emmet
26/05/2007, 6:51 PM
I think it's a positive insofar as we're going to see many players playing in the international arena for the first time. Just like the other day, the result is almost irrelevant - its the performances of the players (individually and collectively) that will matter most.

1-0 to us, Long from an O'Brien cross!!!

Shoudl be 3-0 have been through one on one twice in last five mins and scored neither (Stokes and Long)

By the way this is the narrowest pitch I've ever seen the penalty area ends almost at the corner flag, our first corner was 20 yards too long!

Noelys Guitar
26/05/2007, 8:22 PM
About how many Irish fans are at the match?

JackeenRebel
26/05/2007, 8:28 PM
I agree. Did I hear right, they put grass over a plastic pitch!

No wonder there is no bounce in the ball!

cavan_fan
26/05/2007, 8:29 PM
The stadium is less than half full. According to the commentary its a double header with an MLS game later! Impression I get is there are not that many fans of the 2 teams but lots of locals! There's a mic beside some Irish guys (bench?) whose language is fairly choice

26/05/2007, 8:30 PM
Also Phil Babb seems to find the fact that there's a player called Gamble is a source of great humour. His commentary is on a par with his defending

That's the New England Patriots stadium though, so you wouldn't really expect it to be full. It has a very large capacity. More than the 20,000 at Giants Stadium? I'd say there were about 5,000 at best Irish supporters at Giants Stadium but I would expect Boston to do better.

Which side looks better so far?

It's an odd game, defnesively both teams are poor, I'd say Boliviva are slightly better.

I though Stan might have started with him on the bench and then thrown him on as a late Gamble :D

Poor defensively alright. Stephen Kelly seems to sell himself very easily. Colgan has made a few nice saves. Would like to see a bit more of Stokes, seems quite isolated at times.

I dunno how any of ye distinguish the performance of one fuzzy white blob from another. Potter looks v comfortable on the ball tho. and alan o brien is faster than the Flash.poor enough game with the bolivares just passing it around amongst themselves for most of the first half.

Gotta love the commentary
"Gamble should have taken the gamble"
"The ball was just too long for Long."

Now I know at of people give out about Dundalks pitch but that pitch is just terrible.

pete
26/05/2007, 9:05 PM
Imagine what would have happened if Roy Keane was asked to play on this pitch?

Henderson on for Colgan
O'Halloran on for Murphy

Ireland playing 4-5-1 with Stokes on the right. Can tell the heat is having an affect on all the irish players.

Shane Long is one of the most naturally athletic players i've seen for a long (no pun intended) time. He was destined to be a professional athlete of some description. I think he would have been an Olympic athlete.

Wheres Jacks cap?

Murphy on for ????.
Doyle for Long.

O'Brien is fast & can cross the ball but has no football brain...

Is Stan wearing the white hat?

pete
26/05/2007, 9:19 PM
No hat for Stan

Think current team is...

Henderson
Kelly Bennet O'Cearuill O'Halloran
Stokes Potter Kilbane O'Brien
Doyle Murphy

Murphy came on for Gamble.

JackeenRebel
26/05/2007, 9:22 PM
Babb's commentary is worse than his playing career

Confusing Henderson for Colgan, then forgetting his first name and calling him Mr Henderson, now he is calling Henderson a good Stop shotter ...

:o

For a small fella he is really good at getting up for a header ... not just tonight.

What logic are you looking for, this is Staunton after all.

Ive been in Athens all week, has Hunt played much? He looked well for Reading all season and played well in both his caps in Croker .... Id start him down the left against Slovakia.

Henderson has been inch perfect (if you can say that) so far.
Sounds about 5,000 there.
How much does Phil get paid?

O´Brien is putting in plenty of the hard yards.
Gleason is on now, nice red face.

I'm finding this oddly entertaining, anyone notice how all our players look the same, small gene pool!

Most impressive have been the forward players, I've not seen Stokes play this well

pete
26/05/2007, 9:40 PM
Stokes has shown nothing in these two games to match the hype. Just went on a run & only when he had no other option left passed the ball but move was dead.

Murphy looks much better than Stokes & just had two chances.
