Just making a general comment about the match program this season. It doesnt have many articles and seems to be just mostly adds.I know in modern day football that clubs need to let their sponsors advertise at matches etc.It just seems however that the articles make a good program and theres not many this season for some reason. In general the standard in the last few seasons has been good.Does anyone else feel the same about this seasons one or is it just me?

Yes they are poor. No offense meant to anyone involved(maybe there arent enough of them), but there isnt much about them. In the last 2 seasons I haven't seen one article about the side we're playing against. Percentage of ads to pieces is 80:20.
Last programme - Chairman/managers intro
Club info
Player Profile
Bernies Irish half page
GUST half page
That's 4 pages. Hardly gonna take 15 minutes at half time.
Rest is either ads or info that appears in every issue.
I have lots of programmes from late 80's/early 90's that I have a flick through every now and then cos there's some interesting articles in them.

Someone was lined up to take over as editor but pulled out around two weeks before the start of the season. Our current club promotions officer is acting as editor. This is not his job and is actuallly impinging on his ability to market the club.
The programme will only be successful and interesting if supporters contribute to it. One hour a fortnight is all that is required. GUST notices, chairmans address, managers column are essential, but boring.
A poster here already contributes an entertaining interview with a player every week. Would both of you be interested in helping ?
We could have -
Opinion pieces
Tonights opponents
Our next away match
Articles about club history
Focus on a former player
Focus on a junior/juvenile club
If anyone here is interested, pm your details to me.

i would but im not sure id know what to do..... would memory data be essential or would internet cover it?
Have to agree about the poor quality of the program - even including something as basic as a current leageue table would be useful.
I had though about leaving my match programme(plus one or two programmes of some mates) lying around in the Canteen at work to try and generate some interest to get people to go to Terryland and was also going to staple a note on the front with the details of the next game. The problem is that at the moment as a marketing tool it's pretty poor.(
Does anyone know what happens the programmes left over from previous games?

Apart from the excellent GUFC archive site, there isnt a lot of information
about earlier games and season on the internet. Old programmes would be
a good source of information, and also old newspapers - they can be accessed in any of the college libraries or through the Galway City Council
library.
GUST have packaged together old programmes and sold them in discount
packages (E2 for 5, for example). Apart from that, there is no use for old programmes. Former programme editor Tom Timothy has a huge supply of old programmes in his house.

Unfortunately the last programme had no player interview due to a missed deadline but that shouldnt happen too often through out the season. Gilberto I wouldnt worry too much about memory etc. I submitted general soccer articles last season or the season before and they are accepted too. History of the worlds soccers clubs r profiles of the worlds best players would go along way to flesh out the programme but we need more contributors. It doesnt take long with google searches to come up with an article.
We are in desperate need for them as it will make it easier on the stand in editor. There are plenty of posters here that could write an article about different soccer subjects and one from each of you would certainly add 2 articles per home game for the rest of the season. Please PM me if any of you want advice on what to write about.

It would be better if we had some articles on our opponents and some past players rather than on World players or filler quizzes

Maybe it would be an idea to do an article on some of the better players playing in the eircom league. Might help give the information that is not given in the national media. Maybe some of the posters from other clubs could help

Write about whatever you want to write about as long as it is soccer orientated. The other websites for el teams will probably provide enough info too. Broaden our horizons GUFCT and tell us in the next why you follow qpRangers and abit of the clubs history!

good idea tir oilean! :D
i could do them again for this season.was just a profile of each opposing player that i mostly took from their own website,i tried to add a few lines about each but the editor had to cut them due to space issues.id do that again if i thought it would be included.

Good idea
or better still eamo if you were given the name and number of all the premier division programme editors and they could forward pen pics/club history/Topical piece and some action shots.
It's beginning to feel like a brainstorming session!

I will get some season stats done. Hopefully the Derry programme will see a good bit of content now that this forum is providing a bit of help.

Was going to do a bit on past league encounters with Derry City. A few stats, overall record, high scoring games and most recent encounter.
Interested?

I'd be happy to do a piece on the opposition for each programme to go along with the pen pics.
Let me know if it's needed and I'll submit something for the Derry match.
We could also profile famous fans of various clubs eg Bohs - The Monk, Dundalk - Mad Maxi, Derry - Elizabeth Windsor...

How about an interview with Tom the Gom? It would be the biggest selling programme the league has ever seen!

We could probably sell loads of those to other EL fans online! Twud probably be the most entertaining article ever written in an EL programme! Must give him a lift next time I see him thumbing!

Nothing wrong with quizzes; one of the first things I look for in a programme.
Was commenting on it alright on Friday that there wasn't much in it. It was strange because Daniel was on to me on Tuesday looking for pen pictures, which I showed him where to find on the internet, and they still didn't go in. Very similar thing happened with St Pat's in the League Cup. Don't understand why people go looking for material and then don't include it?
He probably realized that no one gives a f**k about UCD. :)

I can see why he didn't include it.

The STIG profiles are actually intended for programme editors; the sub line under the link actually says that. Plus, I was talking to Daniel when he was at a computer, so he went to the link, found them, and I assured him they were OK to use, which a cursory glance would have backed up, and had been sent to other clubs.
Not going to go off in a huff because they weren't, obviously, but just strange that you'd go to the effort of tracking content and then leave it out.

Seems to me the Switzerland 2, Gareth Farelly and Colin Healy will be in line to make their debuts for Cork City in Terryland on July 6th. Whether Rico decides to use them or not is another days work, but I'd be surprised if at least one of them didn't feature.
Maybe our Programme compilers would be interested in putting something together on it?
FYI - Just got a reply on the Cork board that our game against them would be postponed should they progress to the 2nd. round of the Inter Toto and given that their first round opponents are from Iceland, I'd say they've a better than 50/50 chance of going on.

GUFC are also planning a race night for that evening, after the Cork City game. If the game has to be re-fixed, it should be changed to the following Tuesday.
