Sounds a bit like that wan who used sing with Damien Rice. Always looked like she'd just been speared to a tree.

Haven't heard the ad but that was my first thought too on reading the thread, although I don't remember hearing of them doing that cover.

I'm delighted for Paula ...though I'll never be a fan of Bowies 'Lets' Dance' era. Til now she's been more frequently seen singing live with the awesome Jinx Lennon. Looks like she'll have her hands full with this for a while though.

I can't stand this version. She butchered a great song.

Changing the entire sound of the song. Slowing it down, removing the horns and the guitar.

Imo, the songs a classic. Why did she have to change? On that point why did she have to cover it at all?

To bring herself the recognition that would propel her in to the music industry professionally?

Prefer her version to the original. Very sultry voice. Only heard it a couple of times on the radio so kinda going on first impressions...

I like both versions. I always say though, if you are going to cover a song do something different with it. Its pointless doing a faithfull to the original version. If you make it sound different and its good, I think you've done something creative. Thats what I love about Weller's Studio 150 album.

She has a great voice but I really don't like the sound of the music. It just didn't sound good to me at all. And Let's Dance is such a classic, sure I heard the original today in a pub out in Bray, 24 years later.

Well -we're now into the subjectivity of taste ...I'd probably prefer Paulas version on the basis that she discards that stuff ...the "faux Chic" guitar, Chicken-necking bassline, the life-less "power" drumkit and plasticky brass and keys.

It's entirely arguable that Bowies Let's Dance marks the beginning of the end of the mans time as a driving force in new music. Up until about then people followed his style and looked to ape what he was doing ...here we have him attempting to ape Duran Duran and general new romantic pish ...possibly in an attempt to stay "relevant". But again ...that's all just taste.
