Over on the Wexford Youths forum a number of us have been discussing the setting up of an official supporters club.

People are already in contact with the club and they have suggested that we approach them with a proposal in writing. The club is enthusiastic but want's to ensure any official club is all inclusive and properly run.

So I'm wondering do others with experience of setting up and running this kind of thing have any suggestion or warnings from their own experiences?

What kind of service do other supporters clubs provide (newsletters, discounts, transport) and are they successful?

GUST is run 100% independant of Galway United Football Club. We organise transport to all away games and international games,we set up retail units in city shopping centers selling GUFC merchandise, we also run a weekly lotto and have 2-3 annual fundraisers. All money raised goes Galway United FC. We are represented on the management committee of GUFC. www.gust.ie

The Pride Of Northside Supporters Club is similarily 100% independant from the club however are closely linked. The club assist in supporting derry by offering traveling facilties to fans and raising funds for the club and generally assisting by any means possible.
The club has come along quite a bit since established and now has become a sorta social club organiseing club functions, annual week breaks etc.
The club has been and continues to be a success. We also have a website which has had people from belgium, germany & amaerica interested in the club. This year the website will hopefully be more filled with photos etc.

The Cork city one was re-set up last year and is doing very well. They have a page with contact details on the city website if you want to contact them http://www.corkcityfc.ie/ccosc/

Don't appear on radio saying that the fan's approve of your UEFA CUp tie v Rangers being moved to Prenton Park. That's a big no no :D

We do thank everyone so far for the good help on the pros and cons of everything and really have a good basis, on paper, on which to build and approach the club. :)

The POR (Pride of Ringsend) is independent of Shamrock Rovers but any money we raise is pumped into the club throung sponsorship and other things (we sponsor David Cassidy this season as we did last season)

We are a member of the club too (ie we pay the €40 per month also)

that said we are an independent supporters club and are not inclusive with the club but we are properly run (at least we'd like to think so ;) )

If you want any more info send me a PM

UCD's SC website is at www.STIGonline.com (home of the fanzine as well).

We do the programme and fanzine, and get the money from both, which allows us to charge nothing for SC membership. Handy for reaching more people, I think. On the website, you'll see our SC newsletter as well, which we e-mail out whenever I get around to it. We've also done scarves, keyrings, badges, etc - there's details in the shop section. Obviously, we do a few buses as well, but we've no pictures of those.

Hope that gives you a few ideas!
