View Full Version : The Ronaldo Debate
When you're going at that speed even the slightest contact (and that wasn't slight) will knock you over.
Especially when you're a diving piece of garbage?

..... and a chance to out himself against Ronaldinho, Messi and possibly Kaka next season in a 'who's better' contest
Is it not looking like Ronaldinho will be headin to Milan next year. I read a report on Skysports that suggested he want's to move to Milan to Kaka and Ronaldo rather than Kaka goin to Spain.
Either way I think Ronaldo should stay where he is. I wouldn't mind hearin what the Dunphy and Giles have to say when he reaches his peak.

Ronaldinho said two weeks ago he was staying for the remaining 3 years of his contract. It sounded like he'd leave then.
At 29, that would still be a huge transfer.

Eh way to stay on topic feo.
No way Ronaldo could have done what the worlds best young attacking midfielder did in the Nou Camp today or ever will.
Here. Should be on youtube by the morning (http://football.guardian.co.uk/breakingnews/feedstory/0,,-6568595,00.html)

i dont think you can compare them so he scores a cracker that doesnt make him better!. i scored a cracking scissors kick from outside the box a few mths ago and im not the worlds best!.
ronaldo is the complete player he can tackle, dribble, shot, head, pass
im a united fan and i can honestly say if he got injured at all this yr united wouldnt be where they are now thats for sure!. how do any of ye watch those gits on RTE they havent a clue on soccer, ronaldo is the best player in the world, if he plays like he is now for 4-5 yrs he will be equal to maradona same kind of players i wouldnt say he is now because things change but if he continues like this season for a couple more years theres no doubt.
zidane??.... great player would call him a legand but not like top 3 best like i see here i.e maradona,pele,zidane........

I honestly think Messi is already the best player in th world. His main problem will be keeping fit. His performance against Real madrid a few weeks ago was unreal, his goal tonight even better.

I've thought the same myself for a while (definitely as an attacking player) but I think within two years, it'll be unanimous.
Why can't you compare them Gilberto?
He's 19 aswell so if you're saying Ronaldo has some developing left, think about what he was like when he came to Man U at 19.
They play the exact same role and position for their teams.
Nobodys saying its just this goal either.
Wouldn't have Cristiano down as a good tackler.

im not saying he's a center back kind of tackler he could easily play wing back.... i think ronaldo can play....both wings, center mid, striker and wing back... i mean you cant compare them just all-round didnt mean it literally....

No going to even bother reading this thread:
Ronaldo is now no longer any good - he's fat.
That's what happens when you go to Real.

Didn't think he did anything too amazing but his first goal was a bit classy.
Cristiano Ronaldo was well-shackled.
A good game though.

Ah come on now, his second was just as good, if a different sort of goal, I reckon Milan will take United at the San Siro, especially if they can keep Maldini and Gattuso on the pitch this time

Jayz, i think they're very poor. Granted they look well on paper and are very organised but attack-wise they're just Kaka.
If all their squad was at their individual peaks they'd probably be the best team ever assembled but Gilardinho is **** poor.

To be honest I think the best players in the world are nothing in comparison to a few years ago when you had Ronaldo(prime), Figo, Rivaldo & Zidane. They had all the skills in the world, but most importantly they where able to channel it perfectly and had tremendous success. When these guys where on song, no one could live with them.

The whole team must be overrated because Rooney and Scoles, also
so called world class players, didn't show either. It wasn't just Ronaldo. As for Heinze, he'd be lucky to get a game in the Phoenix Park on that showing.

It was a comprehensive defeat - with a few notably terrible performances. There was no-one to take the game by the scruff of the neck. Didn't get near them. The lead up to the second goal was a comedy of errors.
Vidic wasn't match fit, Giggs was poor, Carrick was anonymous, Heinze had a nightmare..............
I thought Milan played very well to be fair to them.

???.... scholes was class last night he was the only one who performed.... ive been saying all year... heinze, giggs and rooney are p*ss poor!.... rooney score the odd great goal and is touted as a world-class player....just imagine if he had decided to play for ireland instead you wouldnt hear a word himself and heinze cant pass a ball to save there life and giggs all round is just awful and has been for 4+ years now

Scholes wasn't class last night- only average.
If you think Rooney is a poor footballer you must have no understanding of the game. You follow up point further proves your ignorance.

ya i did but that was the main part of it where a single individual was picked out!.
scholes was class in that considering how bad everyone was around him he managed to play well enough and didnt lose the ball stupidly!... rooney is over rated and wasted possession too much, he continuesly gives stupid half passes that are intercepted constantly!. i think his goal scoring record for a ''striker'' in europe proves this when he went nearly 3yrs without a goal proves how over-hyped he is.... scoring some cracking goals doesnt make you class, as proved by RVN(ruud van nistel') and i am a united fan!!

No matter how bad the rest of the team were you can never be described as having a class game just because he was the best player in that game.
I lost count of the amount of times that Scholes lost the ball last night trying to play through the Milan midfield on his own.
Rooney is not a striker. He is not in the team to score goals (despite this he has scored a goal nearly every second game). Just look at the amount of assists he has contributed to see how important he is to the team.
van Nistelrooy proved (and still is) that he is world class. Anyone with a brain could see that.

but thats where your wrong rooney is first and foremost a striker! and thats where he plays most of the time!. my point about scholes is put you out on a pitch with 9 other players playing woeful and play ok and you've got skill..... he has been uniteds best player for years and is highly under-rated in contrast to Giggs,Rooney and one or two others!

Rooney is not a striker, he usually plays between the midfield and striker. It may not seem like much of a difference, but there is a considerable difference.
I still can't see how just because you played better than 9 other players on your team that you should be considered to have had a class game.
I agree with you about him being United's best player over the years, not counting Keane though. Scholes is still better than Gerrard and Lampard IMO.

I think Scholes is a class player - but he was nowhere near class on Wednesday night.
The media hype bestowing the "best footballer in the world" tag upon Ronaldo is ridiculous. There's a few pundits have attempted to put him on a par with the achievements of Marradona and Pele. This is an insult to two players who were truly great - certainly at specifc stages of their career for club and country.
Andy Townsend, on ITV a few weeks ago, was suggesting that Ronaldo was on a par with George Best. The same night, the RTE panel were totally rubbishing him. The reality lies somewhere in the middle.
As regards having an impact when it mattered this season - I'd actually rate Rooney over Ronaldo. Ronaldo is an undoubted talent but he's a fair bit to go to be classed "Great".

I've said it a thousand times: Paul Scholes is much better than Ronaldo. Give me a classy creative midfielder over a performing seal any day. Ronado has great flicks 'n' tricks but he's almost worthless as a team player, while Scholes is endlessly ingenious. When he's buzzing so are Manchestter United.

your example is just one game, he played brilliantly in the world cup in big games, and the hole season long, and the one game he was poor you use as example!when it mattered was against fulham, against everton when united were 2 down, granted there not the biggest teams, but uniteds title challenge came down to games and brilliance like that. and the great john o'shea!
