Chipper in Wexford has them too, never ordered one but I've always thought it's just another name for a battered burger. Not sure why though. Could be miles off!

I know a place that sell them so I'll check it out and report back in about an hour:)

Can anyone answer me this? Whats a 'Whirley Burger'? I've seen these in a few chippers (in Dublin only mind you) and am curious.

Its a Batter Burger in a bun with all the dressings looks like a Quarter pounder.
(I rang a Chipper)

A few years ago I ordered a Quarter Pounder at a Chipper. Nothing odd there. Bit into it and to my horror I discovered they'd covered it in Garlic Sauce

Still trying to get my life back together after this profoundly traumatic event.

Anyone know if this is acceptable practice within the Quarter Pounder recommended ingredients list? Maybe that Chipper could confirm for us :D

You think that's bad? I got red cabbage and breadcrumbs in one burger in the Faroes, and brown sauce in another one there.

That's just downright deviant!!! :D

Thousands of cases of Burger Abuse go unreported each year. Its time for its victims to speak out and say to the world "I HAVE BEEN SOLD A DODGY BURGER!!!!!" :D

couple of places where i have found "THE ultimate burger" jalapenos ( red and green ) chilli sauce savage. goes by a few dif names, texas chilli burger, red hot burger, ultimate red hot burger.

honestly guys once you have had this there is no going back to a manky quarter pounder with cheese.

Boston - Rosebud diner
London - Ultimate burger or hamburger Union both do savage ones.
Chicago - cant remember the place but it was not to far from an fado. savage.
San Francisco - theres an irish bar there that does a decent alternative, but cant remember the name of it either.

Closest i got in ireland was thunderroad cafe where i asked them could they throw in some jalapenos and some chilli sauce. which they did and in fairness wasnt the worst!

anyhow you gotta try out these burgers.

beetroot is too strong and sweet for a burger, just like red cabbage, and brown sauce. my god. horrible. imagine three of those as a combination. how disgusting.

Bacon double chesseburgers from BK are class but if I was pushed I'd probably have to say a Zinger Tower Burger from KFC would be my No1. Spicy chicken, hash brown, cheese, mayonaisse.........drooling as we speak!!

I used to love the BK Veggie Whopper but they changed them now and their not as nice.

Nicest veggie burger i ever had was in the Harp bar (yeah I kid u not!) there was whole lumps of cauliflower & sweetcorn & potato in it. Yum

At home I love Tesco's Nut Cutlets. I fry off some onion, stir in some sweetcorn & chop up some cherry tomtoes. Add some chilli & then some cheese & cook it all together b4 spreading it on a mini cibatta or pitta bread & adding the Nut Cutlet. delicious!

You a veggie magicme?
Where's the Harp Bar?
I only like proper veggie veggie burgers. That Quorn stuff is a disgrace.

I can't believe one person went to Spain & ordered food in american franchise. Almost as shocking is the amount of posters proclaiming fast food (MacD, BK) burgers as quality when they meerly functional. Fast Food burgers is the ultimate in charging high price for local grade product - they may be 100% beef but they include probably every form of beef on the cow that not sold as steak.

Yeah been a veggie for more years than I have eaten meat! The harp bar used to be a rough kip at the far side of O'Connell Bridge on the corner of Westmoreland street. not sure what is there now!

I kinda like Linda McCartney's sausages if pushed but hate Quorn. Dont really like things that taste like meat or have meat texture so most of that stuff makes me want to barf!

You a veggie too Risteard?

I'm not a veggie but I love Quorn.
My girlfriend is an she eats the stuff and I developed a taste for it.
The chicken style pieces are great in a stir fry, the mince is perfect for lasagne and the sausages and southern style burgers are not bad either.
It is very meat like in texture so I can see how hardcore veggies would be put off.

Anyway back to main topic, no chilli or spicy stuff near a burger please. Hate all thing hot I'm afraid. I think I might be one of those supertasters who just can't deal with strong flavours.

I used to kinda like the Linda McCartney mince but not fond of that now either & think Quorn tastes like rubber. Anyways Lasagne is nicer without meat or meat substitutes!

Yesterday, I constructed a burger that consisted of crusty bread bun, put in some lettuce and a quorn 1/4 pounder, cheese, ketchup, and Jalepenos. It was so hot I've lost my ability to ''salvitate''.

Risteard

No, although I eat less meat than a number of friends who claim to be veggies.
The girlf is veggie and won't cook any meat so i wouldn't cook it either if i'm eating with her. People used slag me about saying I'd go nuts having to cook any 'proper meal' myself but i really haven't been bothered.

I would go veggie on ethical grounds but I just like fry-ups too much.

I've one fry-up a week, Sunday morning and turkey and ham Christmas day.

Have to say Bacon is the only meat I miss!

Jalepeno peppers are great on "burgers" as are gherkins.

I make a Falafel burger sometimes too and my carnivour sons love them!

Bacon seems to have broken most of the ex-veggies.
I wouldn't kid myself in the first place.

I don't miss bacon at all, because there are a few alternatives to it that, at least in my opinion, are as nice. Fillet Steak however, that is something I miss.

Have never had a nice fake bacon but do love bacon flavoured crisps & bacon fries so when I need a fix thats what I go for.

I hate the way that resturants (and the hospital!) all ask u if u eat fish or chicken. Am a veggie. If I wanted fish I would ask for it! Also hate the way there is mushrooms in almost every veggie meal! Yuck yuck yuck. Lose a 1/3 of veggie meals by picking out the mushies.

mushrooms are evil. i think a lot of people think this too. they are just disgusting in every sense.

Am I the only one then who prefers burgers with just a bun and some ketchup? What's the point in having a burger if you're going to drown it out with loads of healthy stuff? And also mushrooms and onions, which are obviously evil?

Mushrooms are lush feckin' love em I Do. they're not evil at all they're actually quite friendly at least when you eat certain varieties they're cousins get friendly and I've had lovely long chats with them in the fields

Beetroot and egg come as standard on most burgers in australia outside of the large franchises. Very strange. Can get great value for money in small town chippers though. We had a shop/chipper beside a hostel we were staying in Mildura and for $5 you'd get a double bacon burger(top drawer), a bag of chips that would feed 4 people and 2 cans of coke(maybe an ice cream as well).
Shame on Supermacs and these places thinking it's acceptable to give you 12 or 13 small chips as a "regular fries".

Made a deadly one last nite....read the recipe out of a cookbook...put red jalapeno, onion, 2 cloves of garlic and some philadelphia into a blender and mix until its all a pulp. Get fresh steak mince and breadcrumbs, add an egg white and roll all together and shape your burger. Fry, add to a bap toasted with melted strong cheddar, 2 smoked rashers on top with some ketchup and away you go. Gotta say, it was an awful lot of effort for a burger, but very very tasty.

The way I did it made three burgers( not all for me) and heres what I used:

1lb Fresh Lean Steak Mince.
1 Red Jalapeno
1 Large Onion
2 Cloves Garlic
3 Tablespoons Philadelphia
1 1/2 cups of breadcrumbs
2 Egg Whites

Slice the jalapeno, onion and garlic. Put in blender with philadelphia and egg whites and a few tablespoons of water for a few seconds until all become thick and gooey.

Split the mince into three equal pieces. 1/2 cup of breadcrumbs per burger and mix the gooey stuff equally in with each piece of mince. Shape into your burger size. Put into fridge for 1/2 hour before frying or grilling. (I fried).

When cooked to your satisfaction, toast the bap and melt the Kilmeaden cheddar on to it. Add two sizzling smoked rashers on top, add a little ketchup and mustard, and then its heaven..........

Damn...hungry again and its only 11.15am.
