Not sure if this is in the right forum, but found myself putting in a bid on eBay for a few presents for my girlfriend's birthday. Got one item and hoping I'd be outbid for the other ones. It hasnt happened so far so is there any way at all I can back out of a bid? Obvious question, but i really dont want ot pay for something I don't need after all.

Check the eBay support pages, I think you can do it in particular circumstances, perhaps with the agreement of the seller? Search for "retract".

Yeah, I've contacted the seller and asked them to remove your bid, no problems.
Could all depend on the mood they're in though!

This happened me i bid on a item then noticed they didnt take paypal so i emailed them to see if i could cancel it and was told no !! that it wasnt there fault i didnt read the description properly and if i didnt pay they would report me to ebay !!! . so i had to treck all the way to the bank get a bank draft and post it off ( they also never listed postage to ireland and sent an invoice with postage at £7 sterling for a dvd from the uk !!) so watch that aswell its how a lot make there money .

I tried emailing the seller so hoping that works out OK. 1 day and 2 hrs to go so at least that's a fair bit of notice. Heres hoping anyway...

Set up a new account and outbid yourself.

Engagement ring  ?

Ha ha! No! It's actually a vintage Spanish abanico (fan) for la senorita... I was going to buy it, but just bought one for a lot cheaper on the same site...

Email from the seller:

I have cancelled your bids....not good policy to bid and retract really...it messes everyone about.it puts other bidders off and loses sales.

Excuuuuse me then. So there you have it, it can be done. It may p!ss off the seller but hey its gotta be done. Thanks for the advice guys! :)

Is it normally the seller's call whether they can retract your bid or not? She seemed ok about it, but i can see why she was a bit p!ssed off. new to this eBay lark...

Yes, afaik. By bidding you are entering a contract. She could have forced
you to stay in the auction.

Same thing happened with me. Asked if it's possible for them to remove my bid and he said he cant. I just never paid up and ebay sent me reminders and eventually just gave me a warning(or along those lines anyway)
