Though well documented that Longford Town was founded in 1924 and their history is well documented through their non-league days to election to national league. Is there any soccer history known in the town pre 1924. Sure have read that with the development of soccer in Ireland it was established in a number of provincial towns (if you pardon that expression) including Longford by 1900. If this is so does anyone know of any referance to a soccer club in the town pre 1924.
As a side note drove through Longford about 5 years back and took a detour to have a gander at Flancare Park (didnt realise so far out). Noticed an enclosed pitch with changing rooms on LHS as you left the town, either just before a filling station or just after. Remember there was some temporally dwellings alongside (obviously no polite sign requesting none of the same), just curious as to who's pitch it was ? Longford Celtic? Anyway appreciate any info received re possible early Longford soccer history.

That pitch just after Kane's filling station is known as Michael Neary Park, set up for the team known as FCFC although I am open to correction on that
