i am sitting in the lower davin for current campaign NY and all around me are eL supporters - granted there are a massive amount of daytrippers/barstoolers/EPL fans in the rest of the stadium but i think there is a good section or 2 where i am behind the goals. and a fair few eL jerseys/jackets ..etc around too. ever hear the expression about painting everyone with the same brush?

agree with your expression about the football culture to a large degree unfortunately. but sadly it goes much deeper into society than just football culture. i think you could re-write the sentence and say:
Sadly that is the culture in this country.

Tarring everyone with the same brush? Would have thought it was obvious I didnt mean the real fans that go to Ireland games.

Davin stand my hole? The canal end. Ah fcuk the gah:D

Irish "fans" dont attend any club games in their own country hence the lack of atmosphere at the majority of Ireland games. However they do attend the pub on sunday afternoon to cheer on foreign clubs. Sadly that is the football culture in this country.

Doesnt seem to have affected/afflicted the North

There are 3 types who go to the games,
Type 1 - Those who sing
Type 2 - Those who would sing if those around were singing
Type 3 - Those who expect to be entertained/ mexican wave etc,day trippers/freebie etc

Our Problem is %'s
Unfortunately against Wales on the Sat there were too many of the Type 3 and the Type 1 are not together due to ticketing/singing section fiasco.

There are enough type 1 and 2 abouts if they can get the tickets and in the right locations.

The problem with the lack of songs will solve itself if the above is rectified

Would you ever give the whole el moral highground a break...do you want to be cannonised or something. Im a big ireland fan, i go to all the home and most of the away(depending on finances). I dont support an english club, nor do i support an el club as there is none in my vacinity(meath) and i sure is hell am not going to support a dublin team, AND i sing my heart out every match.

I dont exactly fall into any of your pigeon holes...

The obsession with the premiership is sad, but it is the fault of the FAI, they havnt pumped any resources into promoting and marketing it.

No obsession here son. How about supporting Drogheda then? I know of a shels fan from wexford who goes to every game. Not that far from you. My point above still stands however.

Im not supporting drogheda, they are from louth, im not a fan of louth people...Im not goin to support some team for the sake of it, defeats the purpose, it should be about locality and having a sense of tribalism against the evil of the jackeens and the ignorance of the drogs...

Sounds like you're not a fan of people, period. Just as well you only go to a few live games a year.

Dont let the name fool you son. Judging by the juvenile name calling I would equate you're a regular blue peter watcher.

NY Hoop you have double standards. When I added a Bohs Avator to my profile you gave my abuse for it and now you are giving out to Citizenerased for not supporting Drogheda. If people are lucky enough to have a team that they feel represents them they are the lucky ones who can go to games week in week out.

Citizen does not feel Drogheda represents him so it would be false for him to support Drogheda if he did not feel it.

EDIT: Nice one stu, didn't see this thread

Right, I think its safe to say that we are an embarrassment as fans when it comes to songs etc., and we defo need some new ones and need to retire the "wave" and "stand up for...".

So, if you have been thinking off any of yer own recently, stick 'em down here and see if we can get any of them going at the next game.

Here's my effort for what its worth, same melody as the Wayne Rooney effort (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vfCDozlh73I):

----

I saw my mate the other day
He told me he saw the White Pele
I asked my mate, what do you mean?
He said he goes by the name of Robbie Keane.
Robbie Keane, Robbie Keane.
He goes by the name of Robbie Keane

---

Right, here's the microphone, who's next...
