Players and managers to be honoured this weekend

A special banquet takes place in Dublin on Friday night to mark the contributions made by Irish Senior international players and managers since the first Republic of Ireland international in 1926. All past living players and managers have been invited to the event at the Burlington Hotel and also to the historic first soccer international at Croke Park against Wales the following day.

The committee formed to co-ordinate the events includes ex players John Giles, Terry Conroy, Liam Tuohy, Mick Lawlor, Ray Treacy, Ray Houghton, Liam Brady and Kenny Cunningham together with journalists Jimmy Magee and Peter Byrne and the FAI President David Blood and Chief Executive Officer John Delaney.

Dunphy was at it and there was a picture of Delaney shaking hands with him in the Burlington. Are they friends despite the things Dunphy says about the FAI or is this another case of Dunphy being two-faced?

Nice picture in the same paper of Charlie O'Leary and Mick McCarthy shaking hands.

Dunphy said it was one of the best nights of his life. Seemed to be a really good night enjoyed by all concerned.

Anyone have an idea of how many individuals this involved? I'd say it'd have been a very interesting gig to get in on.

Any one-cap-wonders get mistaken for waiters and asked for two pints, a G'n'T and change for the cigarette machine please?

:)
