Ireland train at Croke Park


The Republic of Ireland senior international soccer side made history today as they took to the pitch at Lansdowne Road for the first time. In a bitterly cold wind, Steve Staunton's squad trained for approximately ninety minutes in the GAA venue. The training session marked the first in the build-up to Saturday's European Championship (2008) qualifier against Wales and the subsequent game against Slovakia the following Wednesday.

Staunton has a number of injury concerns going into the game. Paul McShane, Stephen Ireland and Stephen Hunt all have injury worries. At least McShane and Ireland could be expected to take places in the starting line-up. Meanwhile, goalkeeper Wayne Henderson has been ruled out by a thumb injury.
