O'Donovan lifts Cork back into contention

Cork City may have finally breathed some life into their faltering start to the season. The Rebels ran out 4-0 winners over Portadown in tonight's Setanta Sports Cup group 2 game at Turner's Cross. The result moves Cork second in the group and all but ends Portadown's hopes of a semi-final place.

A scoreless first half progressed fairly evenly to the break and the home support were no doubt dreading another barren night in front of goal. Roy O'Donovan fired Cork in front just after half-time as John O'Flynn's attempt fell kindly for him inside the area.

How did O'Flynn play?

Very well, looks very sharp and tried some stuff tonight that would make he think he is getting back to where he was. Still not near what he was able to do but definitely moving in the right direction. Seems to be getting good with Roy, two of them knowing where there other was and was going to be. Just need someone in the midfield to be on the same wave length now and we'll be grand.

Good result considering so many missing players - Gamble, O'Brien, Kearney, Healy, Farrelly, O'Callaghan...

Was a much better performance than against United. Portadown were ****e and I couldn't understand why O Flynn didnt press their keeper harder in the first half. He was dodge and the only thing he got right all night was the penalty save. Roy showed him up big time in the 2nd half. Lordans goal was the best for me. Movement was class for Lallys goal too though.
