I would have agreed with you before the start of the season, we need a striker with his pace(its scary how fast he is!) but he has been pure muck this season. When on form, he is a much better striker then Doyle.

Yeah, I know he has been muck, I just think he'd be the type of player that could be put on when Ireland are losing 1 nil to Wales, and tire the unfit defence out, regardless of form. Anyway, I'm sure when Cork sort out their problems, he will be back scoring.

Doyler - to tell him he's in.
Robbie - to ask him is he actually going to be any good if i play him.
Roy - to tell him to cop on and sign a 5 year contract with City.
Aldridge - sing us a song John, come on, Lily the Pink
George O'Callaghan - Ring him up, tell him i get the job, ask him how he's getting on playing as a forward, tell him that eL players never got the recognition they deserved when he was playing with City, tell him i was talking to Jim Magilton a while back, watched him a few times and then in the end ask him who he thinks i should call up. Finish by saying "Thanks for your thoughts, I might see you around some time."

Still recovering from a knee injury

I'm aware of that but the OP said "Nobody is injured". Just highlighting one of Stans plethora of nonsensical decisions.

1 Kevin Doyle
2 Robbie Keane
3 Anthony Stokes
4 Alan Lee
5 Clinton Morrison(there are alot of contenders for this spot obviously but i Morrison has played well for us in the past)

The obligatory target man plan b type striker is Alan Lee who i think has more right to feel shafted at not being in the squad than anyone else given he is in very good form this season.

Why is it that alot of people think that Daryl Murphy should be in the squad? The guy hasnt been playing regularly this season and when he has played he has been on the wing alot of the time. Its an eircom league bias imo.

An eircom league bias based on him playing for Waterford prior to Sunderland

Yet you select Stokes...

Murphy is a target man type forward so offers something different.

Alan Lee is a more effective target man in my opinion. I am not trying to be smart but i could only imagine the howls of derision if people were saying that Murphy should be called up had he not played in the eircom league. I have even noticed an anti Leroy Lita sentiment on this board ffs just because he cost Reading more than Kevin Doyle.

Id select Stokes on the fact that he is definetly going to be in the Ireland setup in the future. He is a bit young now but if you are talking about bringing players into the squad to develop them he is defo one. He was good against San Marino when he came on and he is still one of the topscorers for in the SPL.

Present day isn't the future. It's up to the clubs to develop players. Then they should be picked for the international team when they are ready.

Agree 100%. International managers don't keep their jobs very long using the "developing for the future line"

Clinton Morrison shouldn't be let anywhere near an Ireland shirt IMO, nor should Lee Trundle.
Both are opportunist journeymen.

3. Robbie Keane (without captincey)

id love to see Doyle/O'Donovan alongside either Murphy/Ward as a front 2 for ireland

Ceirtlis get a grip, people a putting down the players who they think are the best, not because they like them or what league they play in/have played in. i wouldnt put down o' donovan or keane if i was picking 'favourites'

Murphy when played in his correct role (which he hasnt consistenley been for sunderland since he joined) is a quality player

he needs a transfer to a manager who knows where to play him ASAP

The criticism of Morrison is entirely unjustified. Morrison started playing international football for Ireland in the same way as many of our legends, with a tenuous connection to Ireland. He might not be in the same class as Houghton, Aldridge et alia but how can anyone fault his dedication to the team? Not only is he dedicated, but he scores goals against real teams. At home against Denmark, away against Russia, away against Scotland, at Home against Australia, away against Switzerland, home and away against Israel (AJ and Rooney didn't manage that on Saturday) not to mention one against Cyprus (forget if it was home or away). In his roughly 35 appearances for Ireland that is not a bad tally. In must win games, I'd rather have a player who can score rather a bunch of championship newcomers with potential.

I agree, I can nearly guarantee that if Connolly or Morrison had been there in Serravalle that one of them would have scored (at least one). ****, they probably could've gone themselves the length of the pitch. However, Staunton feels the need to stress the fact the strikers have to be EPL strikers (Even if they can't get a game in the EPL)
