MONS DISAPPOINTED WITH OPENING GAME
Despite a great pre-season and the wonderful squad assembled at Kingspan Century Park, Monaghan United were disappointed with their opening game of the season. Mons cruised into an early lead against League newcomers Wexford Youths but their laid back attitude in the second half cost them 2 points.

Monaghan are without goal machine Willie Doyle at present while the FAI try to sort out the 3 Clubs in one season ruling with FIFA and it was obvious that while the Mons still had some strike power, they were lacking that little bit extra that Doyle brings.

Mons went in at half time 2 goals to the good but were unable to keep the game that way when they returned and Williamson and Farrell’s goals were the highlight of the game for the home support.

United will be hoping to improve on things when the head to Station Road to take on Kildare County on St Patrick’s day (kick off 7.30pm) and will hope that Friday’s large local attendance will come out again in force on Friday week (23rd of March) when Monaghan are at home to Kilkenny City (8pm kick off).
