Just want to say lads before you all get home from the pub thank you for the hospitality that all our supporters were shown on our visit to Jackman Park.
I also think the girl who was doing the supporters club memberships was shocked when this guy in an Athlone Town jacket walked up bought a fanzine and signed up for the supporters club :)

Thought Athlone were the better team after L37 scored. L37 struggled at midfield and never really held onto the ball for too long.
The keeper has good hands but needs to sort out his kickouts.

Ya the keeper must have been given the boots by Mooney when he left, allthough he looked solid enough in poor conditions.
Waters was good at times seemed to fade in and out but overall he did well.
The two wingers look like they cause trouble to defences in better conditions also, Rossi some nice moves just hope he doesnt over do it its Jackman not the Nou Camp.
Peter McCarthy looked up for it when he came on and seemed stronger than the two that started up front.
Back four looked soild allthough Heff skinned Nigel Keady and Athlone could have had a Second.
All in all not a bad result, Bad night Good crowd Some nice football and Two good goals what more could you want!
Keep up the good work Super Blues
And well done to all the supporters club, lads take a bow ye deserve it keep up the good work!

I wouldn't agree that they were two good goals. Athlone's was an awful goal for us to conceed. Really scrappy. Waters' free-kick was brill however. The midfield was a disappointment from the Cobh match and Joey Maloney looked off form. Rossi did really well I thought despite on ocassion over doing it slightly. The ref never gave him a break however. It was good to see Dave Ryan making an improvement in his handling but he has got to sort out his kicks. I was delighted to see Peter McCarthy do well when he came on. I was doubtful whether he would be up to this level of football but he showed that he would be in contension for a starting place. All in all things are looking very good for the team right now. 4pts already and hopefully another 3 against Kildare on Friday night would make an excellent start to the season. The one really good thing about watching Limerick this season is the type of football we play. A lot of credit must go to Ski for getting the team playing football as it should be played.
Oh, and the jerseys look great.

Who is the small lad that played centre midfield? Think he was no.6.
Didn't think he was interested at all. Never seems to want the ball and the game just seems to pass him out. Thought the same in the Cobh game.
Also thought the Athlone defense looked very poor and the two lads up front didnt seem to cause many problems.
Was a good result but i think they could do better with some changes.

our squad is small so changes can only be few and far between. Anthony Hayes is the lad in midfield and he did look a bit shell shocked tonight i agree but he is a good player. Id agree that the're back 4 were rattled and would you believe that one of them is on €650 per week  They are one of the more experienced sides in the first division and will be amoung the top three IMO at seasons end

Rating for each player, in my humble opinion :
7 D.Ryan - much improved, have confidence in him now! His kickouts before were very dodgy, now they’re more suitable to rugby, but at least he’s clearing the opposing strikers!
10 Finny – brilliant! :)
10 Purcell – brilliant! :)
7 Keady – I thought he was woeful last time I saw him but I take that back !
6 Molan – Good, but he has played much better before IMO.
7 Rossi – Put in a lot of effort, but frustrating because he lost possession so many times. He was trying to take on too many people, needed to pass sooner. In fairness, he wasn’t getting much support, and the Athlone defence were very good at closing down in numbers, any time he got the ball, there was three of them on him in seconds.
7 Joey Maloney (I think, was he no.7?) – hadn’t seen him play before, looks very promising
7 Waters – Brilliant free kick for the goal
4 A.Hayes – cant comment, didn’t notice him to be honest
4 D.Goldbey – likewise
4 (P. Moran was it, no.11?) – I cant stand players who stand there moaning to the ref while the game carries on around them  someone have a word !!!
6 McCarthy – Useful when he came on
Just another observation, mid way through the second half we had a throw-in in their half, nobody showed for it – had to wait a good 10-12 seconds before one of our players showed an interest in it.
Particularly at a home game, as a fan I expect our guys to be up for it, to want the ball and show a bit of initiative, not expect someone else to do it.

Would agree with all ratings there.
I think the problem of the throw in is simple.Hayes looks like a tidy footballer but not good enough imo. Its his job as a central midfielder to offer himself for the ball but i have not seen him to this in any game yet.

Moran and Hayes are two ex Athlone players only of last season so you'd expect them to be well known, also Goldby is from Galway and the guy marking him Frawley was ex Galway so they kinda cancelled each other out IMO

dont think Rossi deserves a 7. he lost so much ball and gave away too many free kicks when athlone were under pressure and there was no need for it. give him a few games to get bk to league of ireland standard he should get better

I watched that game from the confines of the "shed" on Friday. On one side of me was a group of men discussing munster rugby throughout the match and behind me was a group of lads who only piped up with ridiculous moaning when the referee correctly penalised Limerick players for fouls, and in front of me was a gang of youg lads throwing hula-hopps at each other. It thoroughly added to my enyoyment of the match.....

Don't start singing though, a lad outside of the shed attempted to start a Limerick chant and the munster rugby fans started laughing.

Ther conditions were poor on the night and to be fair it wasnt a great game. Limericks keeper needs to sort his kicking, most of his kicks went out for a throw in. The defence didnt have any real problems, Finnucane and big Purcell were superb. The wingers looked lively but the central midfield pair seemed to go missing, especially the small lad, No. 6?? Athlone looked very shakey at the back but Limericks strikers didnt cause them any trouble, which is a shame really because i think it was their most vulnerable part of the team. Athlone looked a very young side?? It looks like quite a good start for the Super Blues. Bring on Kildare County

first up i would like to say well done on the work the club has done at jackman more so behind the goal i never thought it was so big.
on the game it self limerick best position this season will be midtable or just below it they have the same prob as last season they cant pass the ball. or strikers are poor enough no pace centre halfs look strong. excellant turn out more so sine it was p*ssing rain through out the game. limerick also looked very dangerous from set pieces with the height of purcell and funnicaine causing alot of probs

Ya i think this squad is too small for a promotion push like 2003.The midfield is fairly weak and the two forwards dont look very interested, the defence though especially in the center one of the stongest in the division
i'd agree with all of that.
someone told me moran is 33? so how come he doesnt know how to hold a ball up by now? every ball the defence cleared came right back at them.
conor molan disappointed me. how many years experience has he now? and still he kept giving stpid frees away by jumping into things. at least ski spotted this and told him about it.
good effort though and the place looked alright so things are moving in the right direction.
the ref was a pain in the hole... very fussy and stopped the game constantly.
