i recently decided to invest in a bodhran. i thought it would be as simple as hitting it a few times. i was wrong. to cut a long story short i broke it on the first day. but i got a new one. all i want it for really is matches. can anyone help me? i want to make enough noise but without breaking it. what am i doing wrong?

i broke two so i feel your pain
first of all like most things...think lubrication:D baby oil on the skin and leave it for 2 weeks....
if its a wet night dont use it..no point
get a snare drum...got one for 70euro and its way better

I assume you mean you broke the skin? Have had several bodhráns, of which only one has broken. Current one is about two or three years old and going strong (apart from the struts at the back which have had some home repair). I got it in McCullough Piggot's, I think, for E50 if that's any help.
I invested in a tambourine a while back. Still under the bed. Well, under a bed anyway.
