mighty crowd, cold night, cretaro man of the match. Not impressed with our left or right full or goalie. Was that fortune back in midfield or was it just an impressionist. Still early days, we missed a real leader out there tonight. Hopefully we can establish some foothold in the next few weeks but turners cross could be tough..... oh btw im sure it wasnt meant but it seemed funny how the season ticket holders were the only ones to have to que tonight and also had to walk around the stadium to get a seat while the fairweathers and the away support sauntered in. Utd will be lucky to get 15 quid off a sligo supporter in the next 3 years let them do the walking and look after the loyal followers who stump up every year. This is not a complaint just something that was perhaps overlooked in preparation for a big season i presume

We were terrible tonight. Reily was brutal, and the keeper was very dodgy. Played way too much long ball, gave them room all over the pitch. A 5 year old behind me quoted "he holds onto the ball to long" in reference to o brien. I 5 year old can spot it but he can't. Subs that cousins made were quite strange too, Murphy was at least trying and always tried to keep the ball on the floor. Cooke not in the game. But in saying all that man of the match for me was Reggie he was outstanding we would have lost by more if not for him. In short: Long ball, defending too deep and very tired looking. As for the season ticket holders having to walk around the ground instead of getting in and having first choice on seats was a farce. I don't think it was an oversight either as this was done for a couple of games at the end of last season. Nice way to treat the real supporters:confused:

Totally agree on the season ticket holders having to walk around the Ground.

It makes no sense that those who've paid E175 should have to make more of an effort than the sunshiners paying E15.

Also having a chipper for 300 people and another for 3000 is bizzare.

now after the post match tonic waters;) .they let kids in through that barrier and let them walk through the front of the section with sligo fans and to continue into the galway section but when i and another guy behind asked could we do the same we werent allowed.surely theres a better system then this guys when ye want to use segregation, seriously, was a joke.and who said we had to do it last season is not telling the truth because i didnt have to do it.
as for the game, agree with most of what was said here already but alan murphy trying to be a ball winner in midfield just was never going to come off.we had 2 creative midfielders in the centre when it should have been a ball winner(foley or even billy) and a creative player(lester, murph, russell).why was barry starting when he didnt play much of the pre-season games????very odd.kelly gave us nothing again but then whats new,I hate him.
but no need for panic yet,its still a group of indivduals trying to gel as a team so give it time.

ya this walk the whole way around the pitch thing is a bit of a joke!. only way around it though is too move section A down to(section G is it) away fans area cause tickets can only be accepted at that gate and season ticket holders can only get in the far side... its not ''the kop'' a move wouldnt kill anyones joy and sure theres going to be a move to the new stand soon enough though anyway isnt there!..... anyone agree??

let the season ticketers in at the top gate, i just feel that season ticket holders should be made to feel that bit special not be left there looking on in the freezing cold outside while everyone else away supporters and those who come when there is a big game get the royal treatment straight into our seats

I think the doom and gloom floating around here is nonsense and hopefully just a kneejerk reaction to a opening day defeat.
We were more than competitive until the first goal went in and should definitely have taken the lead in the first half. The fact is that Sligo created only 2 goalscoring chances from open play and took both of them. That's clinical finishing at any level.
Full-back on both sides is the one area that does need addressing. James is not a natural and Reilly is not up to it. Someone said on here that this position was the least important on the pitch, but I think in our context that was proven to be rubbish last night.

from what i can see most posters are just pointing the obvious. if 3 of your back 5 are ****e we have an instant problem. defense is where it starts but im sure cousins will get that right. within 10 minutes you could see there was a big difference in the teams sligo pushed up all the first half and were in total control. We all recognise its not gonna be easy but its only the start and adjustments will be forthcoming. It is more of an issue with people that the season ticket holders were treated worse than the rest of the visitors last night but im sure the powers that be will be cogniscent of the feelings and will take it on board it was the first game for the off the field team as well so its not a big issue but one that needs to be addressed at thesame time and im sure it will

Our midfield did not perform, all four struggled, Curran and O'Grady were excellent for Rovers. They were the better side and we can have no complaints. Foley should have started, he could have man marked Curran (an Irish u21 International), Lester is regaining match fitness, Murphy would not be a man marker, this gave Curran loads of room, he missed a good chance in the first half and was not picked up in the second half again, this time he scored.

As for season ticket holders having to walk around, fair enough they should not have to, this will not always be the case when the new stand is in place.

Not all season ticket holder use the stand and many would not need to walk around anyhow. They should not have to queue though and hopefully this will be addressed asap.

i hope i'm wrong but i think united will be in for a serious struggle this season, some of the players aren't even up to div 1 standard let alone the premier and don't give me this it's only the forst game that was a **** poor sligo team as well, who will also struggle!

the goalkeeper is shocking-good job he had damn all to do,there must be better keeper than him in the junior league to cover til rodgers gets his clearance!

colin james-useless,no positional sense and can't tackle!

philip reilly-how he was kept on after last year is baffling,in a nutshell a very poor player!

lester-fair enough u can say he's not fit to cover the ground but u don't have to be that fit to pass a ball 5 yards which he struggled to do all night,he set up most of sligo's attacks!

o'brien-if we needed a ballerina,we'd go to a ballet school-his job is to cross the ball,he can't do it end of story!

cooke-anonymous

moran-too worried about the physical side of the game!

the new dutch lad reggie is a good player, charles is solid but u still need a billy clery there to give us a bit of bite!

murphy should be up front-at least he tries to play football as well!

armstrong would do alright i think with a bit of service!

what do ye think am i been to harsh?

the rovers and dundalk games last season.so theres obviously inconsistent enforcement of this aswell because a few ppl didnt have to walk around last night either.its not laziness its just as someone said we should be treated a bit better thats all-like being allowed to go through the gate at section A and be near our usual seats(or in my case standing position) etc.
it was the first game of the season and tony tried some things which he will know did not work so theres no need to panic yet as he will sort it out im sure.

Have to agree with gilberto,it was funny at the start but no need to keep singing it.
Now the "tony Cousins takes....etc, etc" is original and well thought up.

rodgers was warming up and gilberto well done geting promoted for off the field matters;)

well IF u knew what rodgers looked like you'd have seen him in a tracksuit over by the club house watching as he was ineligable to play, there could have been a youth goalie as the 5th would be dangerous to go without one but i couldnt tell ya who was the 5th!

off the field matters??... something like dont know a lot about by the looks of things

lads let them enjoy their little win take away the pain of having no floodlights, turnstiles a crap pitch, no manager and a make-shift team without raf theres nothing IMO. give it another few games we'll see how happy ye still are!!

yes i do know what he looks like,he was warming up and geting abuse from me at the same time.ask some of your krusty friends was he warming up u idiot

krusty is a clown u fu*king knob and he wasnt warming up ya fool he was at the club house becasue he was INELIGABLE and since your to-slow-in-the-head that means he couldnt play so why would he be on the bench, warming up then standing at club house in tracksuit(which was ALL the match beside alan keane)... ya bogger fool!.

All right lads, out, out, back to the Sligo board, enough crusty-baiting. In fairness, if we had a choice between seeing Galway go down, or one of the Dublin clubs . . .

Hard to know from one game, but from that one Galway are going to struggle really badly. We might get a rude awakening when Derry come to Sligo next week, but Friday suggested we're in a lot better shape than many people thought.

The only thing I would say, prompted by that ludicrous editorial in the Advertiser, is that you'll have a hard job keeping a crowd for the season if you can't persuade them to stay for more than 70 minutes of a game - the amount of people who left with 20 minutes to go was ridiculous.

have you never ever seen a goalkeeper thats not in the squad warming up the keeper thats starting????? there was no-one else to warm him up (no sub keeper) so rodgers would have helped him out....then....he would have got changed for the match and watched it at the clubhouse! ;)
