A fantastic start for Limerick 37.Goals on 50 and 59 mins from Moran(according to aertel) and even a missed pen by Goldby on 75. Well done to all involved especially the commitee who worked so hard to get Limerick up and running.Roll on Jackman next Friday.

Fantastic result - I have to admit I wasn't expecting much from us, would have been happy to come away with a scoreless draw. This is extra special to have won our first competitive game, whatever happens next we'll always have that.
Well done again to all involved at Limerick 37, hope there's plenty more of these pleasant surprises in store....:) :) :)
Does anyone know who played?
Did anyone in particular stand out?
Any new signings?

Ryan
Keady Purcell Finucane Buckley
Cosgrove Waters Molan Malone(i think)
Goldbey Moran
Centre halfs both very good.
Keady needs to be told what to do. wasn't good.
Cosgrove very good
Waters good
Two lads up front not great despite Morans two goals.I thought both goals were handed to him.
Glasheen Wall & McCarthy came on after about 65.

Im sure you'll all get a match/teams report at some stage, im too tired with the extra drowsy tablets im taking all day (all legal and above board btw!) all i can say is the style of football is a hell of a lot better than what we've seen lately with Limerick, roll on Athlone

what style of football ye chased every ball and our defence was in disaray we were s***, and you played negative football (but it worked) your number five took out our best player at the end of the first half with a verrry high tackel, his thigh is now twice its normal size, if the result wasn't bad enough now our best player is gone for a month our even longer,:(
but im not going to moan ye were up for it and got yer reward, now im planing a paddys day trip out east to our other new friends wexford,

Believe me, its better ;) and a very high tackle indeed, but in fairness the ref was consistant, your keeper should have walked too, from my angle he saved with his hands outside the box a few mins into the 2nd half.

It's pretty much ready to go at this stage.
That's a poor turnout, thought there'd be a good few transport-less City fans there.

we were very disapointing your manager had his tactics spot on. the tackle on davin was a disgrace but then again id love to see one of our players take out the oppositions best player for a yellow card! i feel in general the two teams were fairly poor tonight.
special mention to the big baldy lad who warned yere supporters about mouthing off the lad nolan, over the years he has always stood out as a true fan of limerick and EL soccer in general, fair play to him, legend.

if nolan got a bit of abuse he more than deserved it with his history with us limerick fans. this goes on in football. he needs to deal with it or get out. mind you i wont bother with him at the return fixture unless he acts the hole.
superb result by us :ball: - especially so as cobh away has always been tricky.
hows cobh gonna shaope up this year? havent ye lost a fair few players? mainly to waterford?

The tackle by Keady was late and deserved a booking. I reckon Keady was annoyed though by O'Neill (and Barrett once) leading with their elbow every time he went to head ball. Doesn't excuse the tackle of course. Apart from that Keady was solid and did well.
McCarthy definitely handled outside the box and should have walked. Referee bottled that. I think he tried to make up for it later by giving Limerick a very, very soft penalty (the kind that Limerick usually have awarded against them). Goldbey wanted to make a game of it though.
It was a fine win for L37 but most impressive was the nature of it. Whenever possible L37 got the ball down and passed it through and around Cobh. Rossi and Joey Maloney were impressive and were a constant threat to Cobh. Goldbey and Moran looked good (especially Goldbey I thought who put Moran's first goal on a plate for him). He made Guthrie's night miserable.
Paddy and Finny were excellent. No hassles - clearing lines when they had to and taking a touch and playing when they could.
Waters and Hayes did well in the centre but could struggle with bigger midfields.
The most impressive thing about the performance was that each player worked hard. There seems to be a good spirit in the team. Ski has done a good job so far. But, as I was saying last night, someone should tell him that Limerick managers are not supposed to shout instructions at their players or remonstrate with officials. We're not used to it - it will have to stop. :)

dont agree with the elbows, especially davin maybe barrett might have once our twice but keady had a go at davin because he was frustrated that davin was making a fool of him in the first half, and he wasnt just late, been late is one thing, you will catch there feet going for the ball, but his feet were miles off the ground which was a red card, the ref was inconsistent i thought with decisions, like early in the second half one of our players and yers went for a header total 50-50 our player won and yers fell to the ground as you do when you lose in a 50-50 and our player got booked, :ball: :ball:
Great win for us last, completly outplayed Cobh in my view and thoroughly deserved our win. From a supporter point of view it was great to see a decent contingent of travelling Limerick fans, especially as we thoroughly outsung the Cobh fans throughout the match.
As for the abuse Nolan got, that child deserved everything he got, if he can't handle it than he shouldn't play against Limerick again this season, cause it's only going to get worse after he's little tantrum at the end of the game. Complete prat in my opinion

Guthrie had an awful game. He was made look a right fool for the first goal. Any other time I've seen him he has been very impressive but if you thought he was good last night I'm afraid you should have gone to Specsavers.

Absolutely the tackle was late but you are giving O'Neill too much credit. If the lad could shoot he would be useful - as it is he couldn't hit a cow's arse with a banjo. He was all touches and Keady had him limited to 30 and 40 yard shots. As a full back myself I'd be happy to let a winger shoot from there all day - he hardly got past Keady once - Keady kept him in front of him. Do you think leading with your elbow "once or twice" should have been a booking. Maybe the ref was inconsistent but that meant he gave Cobh the breaks just as often as us - how he missed McCarthy's hand ball outside the box is beyond me and that meant Cobh should have been down to 10 men - funny how you don't mention that one when slagging off the ref.

Quote from Henderson in the Echo today:
"We're not two goals a worse team than Limerick (sic) but they came here with their long ball game and put us under pressure. They'll do well in the league because the way they play will cause problems and they're well organised. They created nothing though. They had only one shot at goal all night except for the two goals which were mistakes of ours".
Where to start with this arrogant deluded t1t. That Mourinho coat has gone to his head. Cobh fans had better hope this was spoofing because if that's the way he sees the game they are in even deeper sh1t than they looked.
Limerick played a long ball when needed. They got it down and passed and moved whenever it was on. That's called good football. As Paisley said its not about long ball or short ball but the right ball.
I missed their mistake for the first goal - I thought Goldbey knocked it past Guthrie at the edge of the box to make him look an idiot and crossed brilliantly for Moran at the far post. His finish was also class as he had to get up to nod it down beyond the keeper.
I also missed all their chances (which Hendo implies in the quote). What a sad git. The quote above was preceded by a long whinge about not having any fit players - boo hoo. Good its great to beat Cobh and now Henderson gives us another reason to enjoy it. He's obviously a bad loser - you'd think he'd have got the hang of it by now.

What a great start to the new season. I was very impressed with Joey Malone. He really looks the part. I hope we keep playing the type of football we saw last Friday night. Was really good to watch. Only criticism I have is of Dave Ryan. He looked very suspect at times especially under high ball. I think Jimmy Fyffe would be a better choice between the sticks. Anyway, roll on Friday night and the top of the table clash.:)
