Limerick had a great game last night. We could tell from the moment we saw them warming up in the stadium of tin that the team being fielded were fit and looking forward to the game.

Limerick's overall team performance was brilliant. Of special mention however was Mannering, who scored our first two goals and really gave it his all for the team last night, and Colm Heffernan who scored the last goal. Heffernan played a great game, and despite his lack of experience showing through in terms of defending now and then, showed great skill and perseverance throughout the ninty minutes. His goal was well deserved and put the icing on the cake for those of us lucky enough to make the trip.

Ciarán Foley also played well and placed a number of excellent crosses into the box during the game. His crosses were much better than those of O'Donaghue.

Speaking of O'Donaghue, he actually passed a player last night - he took him on and beat him!

O'Connor's tactics were spot on last night. The introduction of Frank Brown helped to push the ball forward and added to the pressure we put Athlone under towards the end of the second half.

All in all it was a great game for Limerick who fully deserved the win. Well done lads.

Because the 'new Limerick website' gives a completely different take on the game, saying that Limerick were very lucky. And since something that appears on a website must be right, that means you are completely wrong in your view. :)

The new Limerick website is really good on statistics as well, it says that Mannering and Foley hadn't scored for a combined EIGHT months (3 months for Mannering and for Foley). (sic) It's amazing how things can be twisted really. :)

We bossed the first 20 minutes, Athlone had the upper hand for about 25 and we were a class above in the second. To be fair, in the media the following day, anybody who wasn't there wouldn't have realised that as the usual Pro-Leinster bias kicked in in a big way. Colm Heffernan was brilliant, absolutely tremendous, Mannering got a just reward for working very hard throughout. Purcell was a colossus (OG or not), Fyffe was excellent when called upon. Aside from a disappointing Barry Ryan we were excellent and played some good football. The travelling support (all four of us) even got a few chants going, the pick being: "Cheer Up Jimmy Green, oh what can it mean, to have a dodgy moustache and a **** football team!" Ecstacy! The majority of the Athlone crowd were alright but there was a gang of pesky teens who tried to wind us up and sloped off about the time of our second/third goal. Poetic justice is great. Especially in the stadium of tin/disused Serb concentration camp that Athlone play in right now.

Decky, could you post up the link for this website?

It's not the (in)famous and completely unbiased Lims Fan mutant drowning website, is it?
