Official attendences have always been produced by all clubs AFAIK and submitted but only a few clubs release the figures to the public.

Yeah that's the problem up here in Northern Ireland.

The only club that openly produces the official attendances is Glentoran.

Coleraine attendances are announced on the Irish League forums by supporters but afaik are not released to main stream media.

We`re expecting a big crowd tonight, so we`ll see how estimates compare tomorrow.

Have to agree here, some of the ones settled on last year were clearly wide of the mark!

Does anyone else think that Dublin City's attendance figures should be removed and divided between the other clubs? ;)

I hope everyone realises that at the end of the season the FAI are going to declare themselves a great success as the average attendance in the premier league has gone up. All that will have happened is that Dublin City (no support) are gone and Rovers (good support) are back

But I don't think we should do anything at all. Keep a track of clubs who do announce figures and nothing else. Even last week when pats announce a crowd 1,600 as the official figure. People were arguing sying there was over 2,000 there. Thats a sizeable increase and IMO it happens at every game.

I find the numbers interesting, if a bit inaccurate (I suppose noone's forcing you to read them). The only problem I see is when these unofficial and inaccurate figures find there way into official documents and are presented as fact, when they should be presented as FACT...

No huge problem either way with posting up unofficial figures, at least it gives a rough idea of the attendance trends at a particular club. It should have been part of the deal for the new league that every club published the correct figures, or else the FAI should have taken this on themselves. Head-in-the-sand approach does us no favours in the long-run - if the attendances are embarrassingly low that's no excuse to ignore them. Publishing them may force someone to do something about it.

Still can't get over how Genesis were allowed to use those guesstimates in their official report on the future of the league.

Oh sorry, was that a criticism:confused:

I don't care. It was ****ing stupid.

it is nice to see that sligo rovers are the third best supported team in the country. this does not say much for the dublin teams
Derry City 3.200
Cork City 2.941
Sligo Rovers 1.806.
its amazing with all this that not one league match was shown live last year despite the fact that we finished fifth.
we dont want to be seen as whingers but even galway v athlone was shown last year on TG4.
i dont think a very good season is likely for rovers but no sign of us in this years tv plans either.
before anyone mentions the cup semi-final v derry last year they were obliged to show the match
wishing all clubs and fans the best for the new year

2,500 at Dundalk vs. Finn Harps.

That's a great attendance. I'd say the whole play-off saga and Maxis' antics from last season have helped keep the EL fresh and exciting in Dundalk people's minds.

Does the club provide official attendances ?

The new loi website said 2,000, 11 aside 'nearly 3,000' , i thought it was around 2,500, but it was hard to judge as the new peadar shed was so packed on its debut !

The club have been announcing estimated attendances for friendlys this year so we`ll see what they say later when report comes up

Harps fans - was there many of you up, only really saw the drummers in the stand

Why does the club issue estimated attendances ? They should have exclusive access to the info on exactly how manner were there !

The club has them - it just chooses not to release them... :)

With the introduction of VAT on gate receipts in the Republic, I expect secrecy around attendances to actually increase over time. If only the FAI had made release of official and accurate attendances a licensing requirement prior to now it would have made adoption of the practise easier.

Official attendance at terryland tonight was 3300. that excludes under-12's which go free and there is no record taken of them. and you can add another 100 on to that figure for non counted season ticket holders when the ques got too long.

Headfry. Wish more people would show up for games like that. The first time you get to see the pink t-shirt man in the technical area in the eL, and most of Monaghan don't show up. What's wrong with the world?

Is it just me or all the clubs, which played tonight, enjoying a slight increase( on average) in their crowds?
It probably won't last but it's a nice beginning. So well done to the FAI promotion people. Hats off to Noel Mooney and the Club Promotion Officers.

The Bohs attendance was about the same as our last 3-4 home games combined last season. If we can keep it to between 2500-3000 then it'd be a great start. The kids go free was a reasonable success. It needs to be build on but it was a solid start.

We have Shamrock Rovers next [3500-4000] and Sligo on good Friday [3000 with kids go free]. If we can get those sort of numbers and a few wins then it'll make a big difference

Not sure we'll get that turn out for the Rovers game now its on a tuesday. I'd be confident of at least 4,000 if it was going ahead in its original slot.

The first games of the season usually get decent crowds as there hasn't been a game in 16 weeks. Also, a lot of the games were local derbies, which would have helped.

Edit - 309 (http://foot.ie/showpost.php?p=640698&postcount=9) appears official for Monaghan-Wexford, including about 60 away fans.
