I would say that Shamrock Rovers, Drogheda and St Pats are good value there.
I think Pats are the bet of the weekend. Won't be backing it as can't face losing the game and money

A Wexford and Kildare double is worth it but I won't be betting on Shels' games this season ;)

Kildare's odds look pretty tasty alright. Decent price on a Bohs/Drogs draw.
A Pats, Kildare double though might tempt me.

I think Sligo Rovers are pretty good value there all things considered.

My thoughts on the week's premier games
Bohs v Drogs - LIVE on RTE2 and IN PLAY on numerous sites
Bohs have a completely new team and could take a while for Connors to find out his best XI. Heary, Crowe and Fenn have strengthened them considerably but I'm not convinced about the players Connors brought with him from Sligo (although Burns does look a good player). Drogheda will look to start the way they did last year and for Doolin the result is all that matters. Expect a dour game with one goal settling it. I'll wait to see a decent price before backing unders
Derry v Bray
Derry''s price is far too short. Although they'd be favourites you couldn't recommend anyone backing a team at 2/5 on the first day of the season. I also think Bray will bemuch better than last year.
No bet
Galway v Sligo
I get the feeling too many pundits are overhyping Galway. They haven't added significantly enough to last yers squad for me to confidently predict they'll win here against a Sligo team in turmoil. Mind you if you can get 6/4 on Galway it might be worth a play
UCD v Rovers
Similar to above, I think people may be rating Rovers too highly. UCD are a solid premier team and consistently underrated. Usually solid at the back, they've retained the same unit as last year (only losing occasional left back Daragh Ryan to Cork). With 2 excellent keppers on show, unders looks an obvious bet. I'd consider small stakes on UCD to win 1-0 as I think they'll be just too strong for a developing Rovers team.
Waterford v Cork
Anybody who read my thoughts on the Setanta Cup games knows my feelings on Cork. With Healy and Farrelly still ineligible, I can't see them scoring too many goals. They still should be too strong for a poor Waterford side though. Cork at 8/11 looks OK to me
Longford v pats
Longford are another side in crisis. paisley has had his tribunal head and although the result isn't known yet, he's unlikely to perform well for Longford if forced to play (Professional pride aside). Longford missing Gary Deegan and Dessie Baker through injury and with last years main playmaker now with Pats, its hard to see where Goals will come from. Pats are likely to play with only gary O'Neill up front but with Ndo, Fahey, Murphy and Foley in midfield look to have more of a threat. Wth the setanta cup preparations already behind them, I'd recommend 4 points on Pats at 7/5 (Ladbrokes) or better f you can find it here (I got €60 matched at 2.5 here)
I'm staying away from the first division as only Dundalk look to have any kind of continuaty with their squad.
I've only done one ante post bet this year. Georgescu (Bray) to finish top scorer ew @ 50/1 with PP. He scored 7 last year and was injured for parts of it. A full season with an improved Bray team could see him double that tally, and 14 should be enough to get into the top 4 for PP's e/w terms
Good luck to all

UCD have only lost occasional left back Ryan? What about star players Dicker and Kavanagh? Also Crowley is suspended and I'm not sure if Finn is available either.

Don't mind him, there's a virulent strain of Bohesque delusion going around in Inchicore. Dodge's predictions are symptomatic of it. And apparently Pats have the best keeper in the League. :D

I said UCD have only lost Ryan out of their defensive unit...
Rovers could well win, but it won't be by much. Two good keepers, two defences organised well. I'm going for a small stakes value bet with the 1-0 UCD
And Ryan is the best. I said it when he was with Rovers too.
I don't fancy Pats to do much this year in terms of winning anything. But we should beat Longford. Nothing biased or overhyped in that at all

Fancy Longford to finish rock bottom so you should be beating them if you've any aspirations for the season.

Agreed. Which was the point of my post above. The one you took issue with ;)
Sorry Dodge didn't read your post properly. I'd say it'll be 0-0 or 1-0 to Rovers. UCD will struggle to create chances this season IMO.
I agree with you Swano. Like I said I expect a low scoring game with very little in it. Plumped for UCD on the basis that McWalter and Sammon may cause Rovers a bit of trouble while their defence tries to gel together. I'm not sying put the house on it
might do my usual Belfield bet
a big NIL - NIL! :D

Kavanagh only played 10 games last season, and most of them were sub appearances. He's not that big of a loss that it's made out to be. Finn is a better player than Dicker so that's no big deal. Crowley is suspended but won't be in our strongest XI this season.

You've never seen Finn play obviously.;)

McWalter is out until January. Paul Byrne will be upfront.

Not sure about how Betfair's decimel odds work but what I got on 1-0 Bohs is the equivelant of 5/1.
5/1 = 6 in betfair terms (minus commission etc)

15/8

You were hardly sitting on the half way line across from the stand coz my dad was talking to 3 Pats fans and they had 200 on Pats at 5/4? You by any chance?

Nice tipping Pats fans.
Due to monstrous amounts of work, the El Punter Betting News didn't get done this week. But I also backed Pats, however it was off scratch in the Asian Handicaps so not nearly as fancy odds as you boys landed (0.85/1). Also backed Athlone Town at a very generous (if not completly wrong 4/5) for a very nice start to the new campaign.

Sorry to steal your thunder el but I was on Athlone at 2.2 on Betdaq!!!! How they came up with that price betting to 108% I'll never know!
Also on the 0-0 in Belfield and Derry at 1.45. Also laid Rovers at 2s to some clown I work with.... ;)
