At belfield we affectionately know this man simply as Mad Tom. This leads to renditions of the wonderful ode, 'He's mad and his name is Tom' as he strolls by possibly considering sending some of his incredible pessimism our way...

Wherever dwells the el fan, (s)he must beware! For Tom seems to pop up in unexpected places all over this little island. When your friend taps u on the shoulder as you sip your first pint on a weekend away in Achill Island and says, 'who is the last person you'd expect to see here' the fear hits you, and as you turn to face this horror, you see the rough face come up and mutter 'Bshwah jays hey shwa i didnt tink u boyz ever went t'see d'achill island under shixteens playin of a froiday noit shwa bshwa shwavshwagragshwa'.

Now what concerns me is that I have seen him recently called 'Tom the Gom' on a popular el online magazine. My question is, what's a Gom?

Not sure exactly why, but abbreviation for gombeen? The guy is a walking Nostradamus, when he tips us to lose, we nearly always do. And he told us at Longford Station, the Town vs UCD match is going to get called off, we didnt believe him, and the man was right half hour later!

At the play-off 2nd leg UCD -v- De Athlone he predicted
that the only team fit to get out of Division 1 the following
season would be Drogheda United.

Everyone laughed at the idea of it at the time!!!!!!

Firstly, Tom is the most pessamistic Gom i've ever met, hence the, 'you're gonna lose' sh't. Secondly, longford have lost more games than they've won this season, so the odds are with him:P, thirdly, it was lashing rain in longford that day and he'd just heard there was a pitch inspection. This fact coupled with point one makes this fairly plausable!!! Still, the man is a legend!
