Its an improvement alright but i still think the TV money is completely crap and the prize money is not distributed evenly enough given its the only money made available to clubs from the league.

Good to see the league getting decent coverage on national tv!! I just think there should be certain times games should not be shown. Like i cant watch any of those games cause Waterford play every friday night.

In england it is illegal for any pub or tv station to show a match between 2.45 and 5.15. This means that people have to go to the match to see it. Brings the crowds back.

This is something that the TV companies so be copping on to, and the league so be fully aware of this too. It makes common sense but ...

Serious ?? Its a good idea to be fair .... are you sure though? I have never heard of that before.

I was meant to add "ON SATURDAYS" after those times, sorry about that!!

And its illegal for pubs to show matches even on foreign channels over in England between those times. Thats how RTE can show then. The 12.45 game always finishes just befor 2.45 and all the 3.00 games finish as Prem Plus coverage starts.

Its a 100% fact!! Just dont ask me to back it up with where its writin cause i cant. Heard it on a BBC program awhile back.

Every single national association is allowed to specify a a certain number of hours when any live football isn't allowed to be shown.

A list of them is here:
http://www.uefa.com/uefa/news/kind=8192/newsid=19817.html

You'll notice that Ireland isn't on that list. I'm pretty certain that the FAI struck a deal with Sky a few years ago, so that the FAI recieve a fee in return for not blocking any live English games. I assume that's still in place.

How can coming 2nd in the 1st division get you more money than 5th in the Premier. If Galway came 5th that would be a great 1st season and then at the end of it to get 15,000 less than say Finn Harps or Cobh. Strange to say the least.

No stranger then finishing 3rd in the first gets you promoted to the premier :p

But it wasn't just finishing third. That wasn't the only factor. And technically they weren't promoted, they were invited to a new league after the old one was disbanded.

It prevents the type of financial gap widening you see in England between the Championship and the Premiership. It'll give newly promoted clubs some sort of fighting chance.

Thought I'd heard the million mark mentioned alright, but the above only comes to E576,500. Where's the difference coming from?

Was the million mentioned as "spent on the league"? i.e. the other 500k is spent on advertising.

Is the money that teams receive for been shown on tv included in those numbers?

For been shown?

Can't imagine it is. It's not coming from the FAI, but from the TV stations. Not that that would stop the FAI claiming credit... Anyway, even at 50 games @ E5,000 each, that's only E250,000, which is still only half the gap.

I think the advertising budget was about E400k, which could be what they're talking about. Spin, as usual...

Would the €1m figure include cup prize money?

There's figures of over half a million being mooted about in the media as the league winner's prize, taking into account the CL and Setanta money that will eventually come as a result.
