View Full Version : Cootes XI v Athlone Town Legends XI

On Saturday 10th March, before the big kick off of Athlone Towns League
campaign, a Mad As Cootes XI will take on an Athlone Town Legends XI in a
friendly game to be played in St. Mels Park at 2pm.

Lining out for the Legends will be notable former players such as Frank Darby,
Barry Murphy, Val Keenan, Donal Golden, Chris Malone, Shane Curran, Rod de
Khors and many more.

All members are eligible to play in this game and should you wish to tog out of
the Cootes please contact a committee member. All supporters are welcome to
cheer on “The Cootes”, and there will be post match analysis in The Olive Bar.

Never thought of that. We have a nurse now when people start collapsing from all the excess exercise :)

It was the best craic ever. The legends were too strong at the end of the day. They just passed alot better then we did, they just ripped us apart when the final pass was delivered. They all still have the touch. But still great day out. Any chance of doing this again next year.

Hopefully we will be able to run this an an annual game for the opening day
of the season.

Although next time I think I'll take the Rod De Khors appraoch and have
the "medical bag" well stocked ;)

Its not the winning or loosing that counts, its how drunk you get afterwards :D

To some people a 4-0 hammering would be a seen as a hammering!
We even missed a peno at the very end, despite their keeper telling
our taker what side he was going to dive :eek:

Great craic though.
