They'd snap Keane off us in an instant. :D It always suprises me how high the Germans rate Keane.

If we had 11 players of inferior skill playing with pride and a game plan we would have a chance so i feel the argument is pointless.

Don't forget this is the nation that idolises David Hasslehoff as a musician..

Doyle is just as good (if not better) than both their strikers and certainly better than Keane.

they outmatch us by A LOT

Correct, they are a far superior team, only Given would get in their squad.

Duffer would make the squad on reputation.

Finnan would walk into the team and Dunne is probably better than any of their current centre halfs. Their right side of midfield is as strong/weak as ours. They have an incredibly strong central midfield.

frings would trample through our midfield alright , we have no-one to touch him

Not to mention Borowski and Ballack!

Can't see past Given under normal circumstances. Several of the German internationals at Bayern are having a very poor season (Schweinsteiger & Podolski in particular) and Odonkor is out with a long-term injury so we might sneak a wide player in or Keane might get the last 15mins of a game, but that's about it.

If there was a German striker who had Doyle's record in the Premiership thsi season he'd be in their squad.

He'd probably make the squad but with Gomez on 13 goals this season and Klose and Kuranyi each on 11 and Podolski being a class act despite not have a great season he wouldn't have it easy.

Interesting to see that of the top four German strikers, two are of Polish origin, one Spanish and one Brazilian. And to think we kicked up such a fuss over the Emelka lad.

I would say though that he's scoring in a tougher league than the Bundesliga.

None of our players are eligible to play for Germany.

Is Oliver Neuville still playing, 'cos he was born in Switzerland, his father is German and his mother is Italian and his grandfather is Belgian.

Given is better than any keeper they have . Ignoring current international form for Ireland Keane, Finnan, Duff and Dunne would walk ito the German squad.

Given would **** on the German team.

Finnan as a Liverpool player would make it.

Thats it.

You'd have to ignore current domestic form too for Duff, Dunne and possibly even Keane to walk anywhere.

Don't agree about Dunne, City's problem is their attack, not their defence

Dunne? I don't watch a lot of Man City but he got official premierleague motm against Arsenal (h), Reading (a), Boro (h), Newcastle (h), Sheffield United (a) and Bolton (a). He was 2nd for motm away to Liverpool and 3rd against West Ham, Everton and Portsmouth. Out of 22 players that's a lot of times he has been one of the best 3 players on the pitch. What makes you think he was off form? He's a lot better than any of the centre halfs that have played for Germany in this campaign.

With a 100% fully fit squad i could only see Given Finnan and Stephen Reid get close to their squad. Possibly Richard Dunne too, remember Robert Huth has a number of caps and he is far from great

Not only would they select David Connolly - but they would continue to select him intermittently over the next 10 years!!

Need to get a result against them???

At the moment im more worried about getting a result against wales and slovakia and that is by no means certain - never mind beating Germany!!

Fair point about Dunne, I don't watch much Man City either and was going more on the team's position rather than his performances. I do still feel that he has been inconsistent for Ireland though and wouldn't be considered an improvement on the current crop of German centre-halves

I agree. He's a bit of a donkey. Funny thing is I reckon O'Shea would get into the German squad but obviously not due to his quality as a footballer.

It's strange how the attitude has changed since we played Germany, back then a lot of people saw Germany as a team we could get a result against, the Germans are nowhere near as good as they used be and they have been inconsistent in recent qualification campaigns.

If you had posted this question prior to the Germany game you would have got a very different response.

Here is another way of looking at it, how many members of the German squad would play in the top 10 teams Premiership? These German players are attracting no interest from England, Spain or Italy which says a lot.

As individuals they are not impressive really, they have some good midfielders and Klose and Podolski ( most over rated player at World Cup ) are decent. Their defenders are not really very good, big yes.

O'Gara
O'Driscoll
D'Arcy
Horgan
Stringer
O'Connell
Hayes

and maybe one or two others.

This thread should be about how many of our players would get in the San Marino team. Answer - none.
