CLUBS could have their membership of the Eircom League terminated if they fail to comply with a directive to supply financial and company information.
Yesterday was the deadline for clubs to respond to a request from the League's General Manager Tommy Allen for information under Rule 10 of the rulebook.
Allen requested details of the structure of each club; the issued share capital and lists of shareholders and the names and addresses of the people who control the operation of the club.
He also wanted details of medical, public and employers liability insurance policies, and a copy of the club's most recent set of audited accounts.
Allen said he was happy with the number of clubs who had responded but added several had sought clarification on some points.
He hoped that every club would have responded to his request by the time the League office reopens after the Christmas break.
Derry City chairman Jim Roddy, who proposed at a recent Board of Control meeting that the information be sought, said he was determined to ensure every club complied or suffer the consequences.
"Under Rule 10 clubs can be excluded from the League if they fail to comply," said Roddy.
The Derry chairman explained he sought the information after he became aware that the holding company of one Eircom League club has been struck off the company's list for failing to make returns.
"It is absolutely wrong that clubs should be trading recklessly.
"Problems with debt can be sorted out but we cannot tolerate clubs who are not structured properly in accordance with the rules.
"With a new season starting in March we have a chance to sort this thing out now and I do not want to see any fudging on this issue," said Roddy.
Roddy said he wrote to League chairman Michael Hyland on December 11, asking him to convene a meeting of the Board of Control, but has yet to receive a reply.
The next scheduled Board of Control meeting is on January 20.
