Wonder what the PFAI make of all of this?
Has the debts to former players being cleared?
Where the PFAIs talk of picketlines now?
Sure its not like Keely to lead a line of players across a picket into Tolka!

5 players on the player profile section. Doin' a grand job. Even up the league by making First Division 5-a-side.

Technically, is it a contract re-signing rather than a new player coming in?

Bracken is a great propect think he could be the future for any potential Shels ture around. Good man to try stable the ship even if it looks like the Titanic.

Apparantly we've offered them Mark O Brien and Lurch on loan. Don't know how true it is. Would have thought that unless we've signed another centre half we'd be needing lurch. They're welcome to Mr. invisible though. Nice to see we're able to help out our neigbours in their time of need! :p

On the subject of loans, I'm totally against Derry City loaning players to Shels until Ollie Byrne is proven to be completely uninvolved in the running of the club, which AFAIK is fairly unclear at this stage.
On its clear that new administration is in place, I'd be happy to help Shels in their time of need.

Good thing you don't have that decision to make then...
Pat Fenlon HAS offered help to Shels already.

FFS its not helping Shels, its getting your players experience at a alevel above u21s. I have no problem with Pats sending players to anybody once it helps the players

I'm shocked Shels have a budget of 9k Per Week. It's actually ridiculous. You would think they would try to be feasible after what happened?
It'll be fascinating to see how their quickly-cobbled-together motley squad gets on under Dermo.

He done well with us in our first season with a brand new squad. Although he did run us into the ground financially before running off to Derry. Who didn't fall for the guy I hear....

Exacty, look at the players he brought into Kildare. He's a chequebook manager. His teams play rubbish football (including DC last year), even when they have good players. He does get his players to play for him though, I'll give him that much. With a 9k a week budget he will be a flop if he doesn't walk the first division.

Shels new heroes are - Brian Gartland, Wayne Byrne (Bray W) and John Brophy, Aaran McNiffe, Ciaran Harte (UCD).

No it's Brian Gartland from Bray, with our U21's last season.

Both look like they could be perm. deals ? I'd be dissapointed if Bray let 2 young talents like these go....

Philly, Keely didn't run Kildare County's finances into the ground and whoever told you that is wrong. Sure he had a lot more money than John Ryan does at the moment but if he stays within a budget that has he agreed with the board, how does that mean he ruining the clubs finances? It's up to the board to decide the budget and as long as the manager stays within that, any financial problems are then the board's fault. It's very easy to blame Keely but if Shels are offering him a 9k weekly budget, as a manager, he is hardly to going to say he doesn't need all that money is he?

Wouldn't it be tragic if Shels went over their permitted amount of loans for the season because there's nobody left at the club who understands the rulebook!!!

Don't worry charlie, We are aware we are only permitted a maximum of FOUR players on loan at any one time.
Hope this clears thing up for you and you don't have to worry about shels having more players than is permitted;)

It's in today's Irish Times that he has signed as well as Mark O'Brien, and Keely is hoping to get Conor Powell as well
Edit: and it says they signed Conor Rafferty from Bohs as well

All this seems to suggest that Shels aren't going to fold. Great Stuff! :)
Is Alan Moore still with them then? I never saw anything saying he'd left and he's still on their website.
I think they may actually have a decent side this year.

I would be amazed at the Derry board letting their fringe players be "educated " under Keely. After witnessing his attempted one man demolition of Derry City, I cant figure out for the life of me how his archaic tactics will serve to benefit any youngster trying to develop his footballing skills.
If you're judging him on that one season you're forgetting the trophies he's won with Rovers, Dundalk, Shels etc etc
Not to mention he was a top class defender himself. Get over your pettiness and realise that this could help some of your players
BTW I despise Keely :)

I also despise Keely as did a lot of Shels fans, The main reason was the way Keely gets his team to play football (Or the lack off), i was glad to see the back of him after the Boh's game in Dalymount a few years ago, But i believe he is the Best manager we could have got in at this time, and is probably the one man who could get us out of the first division in the next two seasons.
Anyway, Great quote from him in the Sun today, in relation to Roddy saying he's past it, Dermot said ' Its been a while since Roddy worked, But if he wants to drop in his CV to Tolka then i'm sure i can find him plenty of work plastering'

Not pettiness at all. I have actually met the man after the debacle and find him a decent enough bloke. i have a lot to thank him for - watching his tactics in full swing led me to have a creak in my neck for 6 months and I I learned so much about the night sky under his stewardship. If we wanted to loan players out we can send them to Higgsy and McCann at Harps anyhow for valuable experience.

Im sure there has to be a restriction on how many loans a club can have aswell. They cant loan an entire team surely. However because its shels ud never know a dispensation cud be on the cards.

Whoever told me that? I was there mate!
He signed a squad in our second year that was destined for promotion. We would have gotten promoted if he had of stayed. Then he jumped ship leaving us with a mammoth wage bill and a managers seat to fill. We appointed Hannigan (Boards mistake) and things went downhill from there.
As far as I am concerned one does not sign a Premier squad for a small club and then run off where more money is at the first opportunity. He let the club down big time. He is the sort that convinces boards he has what it takes to deliver if they make the resources available (just look at Dublin City). We as a club fell for it.
He is undoubtadly a cheque book manager.
Thankfully we are now pretty much debt free and have all the tax paid up. A fresh start for us from this season forth. Lets hope we don't appoint a journey man like him ever again - a lesson learnt.
Now back to Shels.....
I personally find it annoying they are having players thrown at them by other clubs. Also I find it annoying that their wage bill will be so large considering they will still have many outstanding debts and be living off Ossie Kilkenny's dripfeeding. It's like they have learnt nothing.
That's just my view on it.

They have got James Hussey as well.
Brohpy and Harte are good signings for the First Division. McEneff is unproven and has been out injured for the past year or so. He has metal plates in his foot.

AFAIK you can loan as many players as you want but can have no more than 4 in your squad for matches. There is alot of free agents still unsigned and it looks as if they have a keeper sorted in Dean Delaney as he left derry after failing to agree terms. Derry signin Ola a Danish keeper (oops that aint official yet) Is Mick O'Donnell signed for any1 yet. he supposed to be keen on stayin in Dublin 'cause o work/study (not sure which).
either way with a weekly wage budget of 9k in Dublin you can attract a side capable of competin in 1st Div. especially under keely's own brand of "sexy football"

If Shels are allowed enter the league with debts outstanding and put together a budget of 9k a week for the First Division it's the fcukin disgrace to end all disgraces

Anyone know what the 1st Division average is? If they start living beyond their menas again they should be kicked out. The FAI should warn them now to declare their intent.

And if they're not living beyond their means on E9k?
There were figures up from the Star a couple of years ago. UCD were second in the Premier on turnover of about E350k, or about E9k a week, given a 39-week season. That had to cover travel, match-day costs, the various other teams we put out, etc. I think that was about mid-table turnover-wise for the division.

I think Harps budget is usually 5-7k the last couple of seasons and our debt aint near the same as Shels and we will prob attract more support than Shels this season:rolleyes:
