bitoredxp preview for galway

Its amazing how things can change in a short space of time.About 5 months ago Sligo Rovers fans were in pretty jubilant mood.A semi final approaching and the possibility of being in the top 4 of the League. The club hadn't been in better shape on the pitch in well over a decade. The promise from Sean Connor of his young squad being serious contenders in 2007 had every supporter looking forward to the future

Of course that all changed. Judas, treachory, general *****ness etc. The best players from the squad are gone and a new manager appointed. The big change however is the change in attitude. It is very hard for anyone to talk with any great excitment for the new season unless it involves some sort of substance that can leave you with an unsound mind. The question is, why?

For many years Rovers fans have been notorious for being fickle and perhaps that is fair....for ****s sake faz like!wasn't he supposed to excel in the Premier Division. Anyway without drifting off the topic isn't it about time that changed. We cannot go to Galway without belief in our players so lets try to instill some optimism!

First thing....we are playing Galway. Galway United. Big fish in a big pond ,in a pond full of ****. Lets not forget the last time Terryland was one of the first trips of the season. Carlos Alvarez scored two goals. And Bryan Tosh was the catalyst of the performence! So before we get carried away with Galway's revolution take a moment to look at their squad and it is not much better than ours. They will take time to gel.We may be getting them at a good time.
Now the second point is our team. Lets start from the back.We do not have a very big squad to say the least. A legendary quote from some clever individual

"Fail to prepare, prepare to fail"- Sligo Rovers fans seem to have adopted this as their motto for the pre season depression but let me ask you.Where did the quote originate from.Nobody knows.because the person who said it is dead!So he failed!and he prepared!heres the team for Galway as it stands.

Arcaba:OK he is not O' Hara but clearly he has something.Perhaps the big occasion will suit the man.He seems very athletic and Rob says he will come good in time with experience so let leave the jury out on him

Peersy.Hardly the worst right back in the league.Very solid and hopefully he will play right back because he is a good Premiership player.

Mc Kenzie.again not a bad player..he can handle it.He deserves his chance

Strong?please god we sign him because its getting desperate!otherwise its Peers centre back...hey he did a job sometimes...ok im getting slightly worried typing this but lets move on

Kelly.Very impressed with him vs Mons. Whether he can handle the 3500 crowd and the atmosphere we do not know .If Foyzer gets the nod...well fitter than ive seen him before and still drinking so I refuse to lose faith in him!

Cretaro:Big bonus is having him playing against Galway, rather than he being against us.No need to say anything else.

Hughes:We need a big game from him and I think we will get that.A fair few goals will come from midfield seeing we have 1 striker and I think he will deliver vs Galway.

Faz.Ah Faz...ask anyone in sligo how to spell his name and they say you cant spell Kudozivic without the word coward! But his ability is unquestionable and with a point to prove,on a decent pitch in Terryland he will take the Krustys down. Believe in him from the start and that could be half the battle with him.

O' Grady. He may not be too upbeat on our prospects but will he give 100%. Of course..and he will cover the makeshift defence well. He will enjoy the occasion too no doubt. I maybe filling this with bull**** but we all know what O' Grady is about and you can't doubt him

Badjaik/Jay: Piotr is the unknown quantity.Swinford was the only time anyone saw him and it remains a mystery. But Rob sees a lot in him so he must be half decent .His pace will be a real asset. Jay...everyone says he is too lightweight but so was singh.People made a big deal about having no locals..well here is your local ahead of the foreigner!Tremendous ability and going full time he could be out best improved player this year

Choice:"Choice is hot"."Choice is hot "."Choice is hot".

Choice is primed.Against Drogheda in the two game he played against them he has shown just what he can do.It must be unleashed.Soon it will be.Look at this touch vs Mons...it was **** poor...so was the pitch.it was the pitchs fault and not his.On Terrylands pitch,on the big occasion, you cant help but think its time to see him deliver for the 90mins.

That will be our team and ok they will need a lot of luck to win in Galway but you make your own luck.I can keep going on about belief as will Rob at 7.35pm friday 9th March. We may not have it now but as we get on the bus at whatever time on that day we will believe wont we.And here is where we come, the final point

Atmosphere. Galway is a big city and of course they will have 3000 fans for the game. How many will we have?300 maybe. It is our duty as supporters to stand up and be counted on the opening day because just like in Killester it is one of those game where they need you behind them for the entire game.We have to show them we have faith in them. I hate saying this, I really do and this will sicken you when you read it

"No if's ,no but's ,no maybe's :total faith"

Ya...i went there.Angry now?Well theres a good spin on this because to spit in the face of Sean Connor is to not disappear of the radar like he did and actually stand by a motto.Because unlike him we say "till i die". In a sligo accent. On a cold March night followed by the repeated chant of our Nigerian striker's Christian name. Bitoredxp are changing and almost growing up this season.Gone are the inflatables which have served us so well and in are the new flags, drums ,scarves, flares and whatever we can lay our hands on in the next 10 days!We can be the 11th man that Kevin Julian may not be able to be. We showed Rob we can be crazy with the santa suit in Bray. Now we have to show him we are 100% behind him and his team. Eamon Sweeney :"They think its all over"........well it hasnt even started lads!

i hope so,he looked decent, but MT said theres not much chance, although i think theyre starting to panic because when the chairman of a football club comes to a supporter and asks 'do you know any big centre back out of contract'- thats pretty worrying.

Does our manager have any contacts himself. It seems the players brought in so far have been either through the help of Gerry Cassidy or "old" players coming back

It's getting serious now....be afraid be very afraid :(

There has to be at least a striker coming in, no way can the Farmer depend on Choice for the season.
