Delighted. He's a S****horpe of the highest order. Hope he rots in hell, but even better if he gets thrown out of the NUJ for being a disgrace to journalism, becomes destitute and unemployable and dies choking on his own vomit.
I tried to get him the boot from the NUJ for the lies he wrote about Rovers but Seamus Dooley did his best 'Jayziz, ya can't take on Tony O'Reilly' stance and that was the end of that.
An absolute scumbag.
Forgot to add: I hope the copper that fed him gets done too.

I'll go against the general concensus on this one. Yes the guy may of written lies about Rovers in the past... however does no one find it (especially Rovers fans) somewhat scary that journalists can now be arrrested for doing their job, ie he wrote an article based on a leaked report (Dean Lyons case I think) whilst at the same time we have in situ a minister of Justcie who is a self confessed leaker of info to journalists ie McDowell admitted to leaking information to Sam Smyth about (can't remember his name) that guy who headed up an institute that was investigating various dodgy arms of the state, was called something like the The Institute of Public Governance...and the wealthy american backers then withdrew funding..... scary stuff IMO and another reason to remove McD from office at the next election

Spot on CJ. Fair play.
It's just a little scary how much score-settling glee there is when some sinister loon decides to arrest a journalist.

If another journalist thinks that the story is worth covering - fair enough.

However, for McCaffrey to be coming out and claiming to be a defender of the truth is laughable. This is the same waster who made up stories about Rovers on a daily basis and who regarded inane ramblings on internet forums as hard evidence of something or other.

He can't have it both ways. Tough.

Oh so it's ok for those you deem to be 'wrong' to suffer at the hands of stalinesque type laws.... ' All it takes for evil to triumph is for good men to do nothing !

As I said I don't have any time for him....however it worries me that we have laws that allow this to happen.... IMO you can't pick and choose whom deserves to suffer or not...the said law is wrong and that is the real issue here.... suppose you also support McDowell's attempt to abolish the right to silence as well which he is peddaling as only applying to members of serious criminal gangs when in reality it means kids aged 14 and upwards can have it used against them !

The whole issue here is the leaking of a report under the Commission of Investigation Act.

This report was to be submitted to the families of the people involved prior to it being published. All persons involved were warned that it was not to be leaked under any circumstances prior to publications and if it was that they would be prosecuted.

This wasn't a case where the report wasn't going to come to light, it was a case of the Herald trying to steal a few yards over everybody else and as a consequence ****ing on the families involved by disclosing matters publically before they became aware of them.

It's not about restricting free speech its about procedure. McCaffery (and the cop invovled) should be prosecuted if they have a case to answer.

McCaffrey is the only one doing the picking and chosing. Why doesn't he go after real stories instead of constanty "chosing" Rovers to "pick" on.

Freedom of the press is a fundamental. However, with that comes responsibility. It really is karma at work to see McCaffery locked up after the lies he's wrote regarding this league, and it's just funny to see the editor of the Herald on six1 defending their right to publish "the truth".

Found this one as well, not by McCaffrey, but also from the Herald. It obviously escaped his attention that the fist is a socialist/communist symbol and as for Nazi SS emblems, has anyone ever seen them at Rovers games? Doubt it.
