first of all "the less literate gallagher"...and you have the guile to quote him..did you see him at the brits...he cant sing anymore!!
easy to dismiss gorillaz but if you listen to there abums they are very good
im not going to get into an argument because music is subjective...each to their own you know....i was a massive oasis fan and i still am but after seeing them at oxegen a few years ago and then at the brits...i just wouldn'd bother anymore with them live....liams voice is shot...years of singing about the "sunshiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiine"
still great tunes! :D

Excellent stuff alright. Good to see Paul Simenon back as well.
Not wishing to add to the blur/oasis debate but I've always felt that oasis while releasing decent enough songs are alway quite predictable. Blur/Albarn at least try new stuff.
Yes, I'll definitely have to get this.

Basically a pile of tatty B-Sides that were lying around Damons riverfront apartment since the Blur days

So by that logic , The Good the Bad and the Queen will be made up of Gorillaz B- sides.

Ya, that's right, that's a perfectly reasonable and well thought out conclusion your after drawing there

Gorillaz are fekin genius. Nothing tatty or B-Sidish about them. Albarn is Mozart to the Gallaghers' George Formby. The sheer scope of his songwriting puts him up there with the likes of Eno and Bowie IMO.
Modern life is Rubbish, Parklife, 13, Gorillaz, Demon Days and The Good the Bad and the Queen are modern British classics.
Leisure, Blur, The Great Escape,Think Tank and Mali Music are also really good albums.
Quoasis haven't done anything worthwhile in 12 years, and even then it was derivative rock n' roll.

I have it i must admit i havent listened to it as much as id like to have but i like what ive heard so far .
you cant compare Albarn with the oasis brothers , albarn has changed direction plenty of times now and done it very well , think tank was completly different from what blur normally did , gurrilaz again changed even the 2nd album was different from the first , and now this one and all are really good .
oasis i liked when i was 15 now i look back and think how where they so big ??? 1 good album of by the book pop rock , one ok album and the rest was pants .

Blur are just as derivative as the rest of them , They owe a huge debt of gratitude to the songwriting of Ray Davies.

and damon would openly admit that..he has said the biggest thrill in his life was meeting ray davies....but there is a difference to be influenced by someone..and blatently robbing solo's or chord structures!!
hey dont get me wrong i love balls out rock and roll....but damon had always written stuff with a bit morre class than noel...
as i said before the beauty of music is it is totally subjective!!and thats why after religon and football its probably the most argued about topic!!:D

What Shannonman said. For one thing the Ray Davies influence is only really evident on albums two and three (out of 7 albums!). Another thing is that Albarn takes his influences and builds upon them.

So do Oasis , Noel said he always regretted saying his big influence was Beatles cos everyone picked him up on it , said he was always influenced far more by Slade , most great Oasis tracks i know sound just like Oasis themselves rather than anything else , as Noel says they could experiment but thats not what their fanbase want,

Fanbase shmanbase.
Their original fanbase wanted that. Everyone I know that was into them in the beginning including myself were bored with them by the time the third album came around.
What Noely G is really saying is that its easier to sell records if you don't artisticly challenge the music buying public. Its the difference between being an artist and a used car salesman.

Really liking the Good, the Bad and the Queen to be honest, think it's gonna be one of those albums that gets better with time as well. As for Mr.Albarn's input into British music, well I think he ranks up there with Ray Davies, John Lennon, Paul McCartney, Morrissey, Joe Strummer, Mick Jones, and Jerry Dammers in documenting British life. For my moneys he has been involved in six quality albums (Modern Life, Parklife, Blur, 13, Demon Days, Good, the Bad and the Queen), five good albums (Great Escape, Think Tank, Mali Music, Gorillaz, Democrazy) and one patchy affair (Leisure).
I think the only thing that has held him back from National Treasure status in Britain is his arrogance to be honest

Experimentation requires levels of imagination many modern musos do not possess.

Totally agree, but with the ease at which record companies drop artists these days it hard to do something that would be considered experimentation...and maybe alienate a section of your fanbase...which of course would in turn lead to loss of sales and maybe being dropped...

Could you imagine if Captain Beefheart and Zappa were starting out today?
Could you imagine an album like Trout Mask Replica getting made?

Beefheart I'll give you, but Zappa getting told he shouldn't bother with music at an American Idol audition could have saved us all a lot of grief ;)

I wouldn't under-estimate Graham Coxon's input into what made Blur such a great band. His guitar playing on all of the albums was inspired.
His last two albums were great.
Appears to be rumours that Coxon may be re-joining Albarn to record one more Blur album.
Doesn't appear to be the level of acrimony that surrounds Ian Brown and John Squire - so an original line-up Blur could still happen.

Excellent. I liked Think Tank but it didn't feel like a Blur Album.
Might be the last time we get to see them live as a unit too.

the first ever gig i went to as i young man was blur in the r.d.s. supported by balck grape and supergrass.
just a great live show i remember damon climbing up the side of the stage(dont think he'd do that now) but the gig itself was just brilliant
would give an arm and a leg to see them again....

I saw them a few times and they were always great gigs -
Feile 94 in Tipperary, Feile 95 in Cork (Headlined Saturday), Olympia (2004?)
The Olympia gig had a different vibe to it without Coxon's guitar. A great gig - but different to the previous Blur gigs I'd seen.
Damon has mellowed a bit since the days when he was pogo-ing around the stage like a demented lunatic as well though.
Coxon has developed into a great song writer as well so it would be interesting to see what they could produce on a final Blur album.

Saw them at Feile '94 and '95, The Point '95, RDS '96, Point '97 and '99. Missed the Olympia unfortunately, would have loved to have gone. Will definitely go see them if they come back again.
