I've been to a handful of Ireland games (Ireland 1 Italy 0, Ireland 0 Norway 0 in 1994 and more recently Ireland 0 Chile 1 and Ireland 0 Holland 4) and I've noticed that almost everyone wears fairly new strips to the games. I was wondering if there is any unwritten rules about this, like if I wore one the strips I have from 1994 to a game, would I get abuse for it, or the orange one from the time of the macedonia disaster that i have kicking around some place?

You'll find loads of different jerseys kicking around at Ireland games, from new to old international tops, League of Ireland, overseas...it doesn't really matter, wear what you like. If it's green, most people probably won't notice.

Any Irish shirt any vintage is fine. Some people like to have the latest and greatest.but that is their choice.

Personally I'd prefer if fans didn't wear British football shirts at Irish games even copycat Shamrock Rovers tops. Best to leave the rugby and GAA tops at home too.

Orange shirts in themselves are fine -it is the colour of a third of the flag after all ...it's just that ours was a of particularly scangery design.

I sometimes wonder did the designer make it tarmaccader orange for a dare.

So anyway -wear orange if you like ...Blackpool, pre-2000 Holland and even some northern gae tops:eek: are considerably nicer than our one mind.

Remember those manky "have Ireland - half Dublin" O'Neills Jerseys?

When I was a yoof, such a thing would be an indicator of lack of fashion sense. Now you can claim it's retro. If it's Green, go for it.

The older the better. A real retro top needs to be at least five years old. serious kudos for anything 10 years old or more.

Make sure you wash the f*cking things, especially if you are sitting anywhere in the Hogan stand. I Don't want to be watching a shiite Ireland performance and holding my nose.

At least the Celtic ones are green. Though I have to admit, I think I've worn a Barca shirt to an Ireland game - just not thinking that morning.

The signing of Vinny Arkins, his zimmer frame and personal nurse has sealed the deal tbh

In my case, many of my older shirts no longer fit me so I have to purchase to suit my enhanced physique.

no problem with any shirt or scarf as long as its green , i wish more people would wear green as well as it really makes a sight , just as the dutch orange does
