I read that Lent begins this Wednesday and it got me wondering does anybody give anything up anymore or is it mainly for the older generations now?
I've never done anything for it since I moved to Scotland 12 years ago but reading about it has made me consider things I could potentially give up.
Whether I actually do anything for it is a different matter...

I always find the best course of action is to give up the oul Catholicism that way you don't have to give up any of the important stuff ;)

I always use it to give up a bad habbit. I gave up slouching one year and lie-ins last year.
This year I'm thinking about giving up skipping training.

Heroine
Along with supporting Shels, smoking and murder.
Every year, I actually try to cut down on my profanity.

Ah , giving up on being an inspirational female role-model is indeed a tough and demanding ask of any human , unlike that trifling Class A drug heroin.

Been giving up alcohol every year for Lent since 2000, last year was the first year since 2002 I didn't make it the whole way through (had to meet the gf's parents for the first time - there was no way I could do that on lucozade!!) so this year I'm hoping to get back to old habits.

I usually give up the booze too. I've had to make exceptions in the past for Six Nations' celebrations and the odd wedding but I generally last the forty days and forty nights (the nights are of course the worst). No religious motives, just to prove to myself that I can.

I've given up alcohol maybe twice for prolonged periods since i started drinking , and didnt find it too difficult , found giving up caffeine a lot harder.

Gave up Alcohol for 3 months once. Not too hard once you get over your first weekend. Bet no one here could give up s€x or its DIY version (which ever is most appropriate to you) for 40 days and nights!

It depends what you mean, every sexual act or just sex?its actually physically impossible for a man to give up everything of that sort for that period of time......;)

Try having a kid. Too knackered to even think about it in the first couple of months.

I take it you will be treating St Patrick's day as an exception.

Maybe...just maybe.
I take it you will be treating St Patrick's day as an exception.Of course, as it says in Luke 12:52;
"On the 17th day, Jesus did come out of the desert and thereupon comsume a dozen pints of Guinness. There was much rejoicing."

Going to give up the oul Breakfast rolls which I have nearly every morning at work also chocolate/sweets, and might try and kick the coke habit as well (cola that is;) ) basically it is a chance to try and eat healthier, never give up the booze for lent due to the fact I play darts and am no good playing league/competitions with out a few pints (some would say I am no good anyway…:o )

I'm considering giving up calling for Stan's head for Lent.
On the other hand I may go for the easy option and give up booze and sex.

MMMMM... Imagine a nice pint right now. That sensation of the first gulp, the liquid sliding down your throat...
Im actually 4 weeks off the old alcohol at the moment and feel great. Although I will be making an exception for Rag Week next week but I did start a week or 2 early.
