O’Grady reveals Longford rebuff
February 12, 2007
Sligo Rovers star Conor O’Grady has revealed he turned down the chance to join Longford Town in order to sign a new deal at the Showgrounds.
O’Grady had parted company with Rovers at the end of last season, and repeated attempts to get him to agree to a full-time professional deal had foundered.
He had been training with Longford and was on the verge of putting pen to paper at Flancare Park before a last-ditch effort from his hometown club kept him in the north-west – O’Grady will now be the only part-time player on Sligo’s books next season.
He told the club’s official website: “It has been a crazy 48 hours. The club got in contact with me again Wednesday and Thursday. I had been training with Longford Town last weekend and was going to sign for Longford on Saturday.
“I am delighted to be signing for Sligo today. I would like to thank my company Union Foods. Without their support I wouldn’t be able to do what I love and that is play for Sligo Rovers.
“They have given me the opportunity. I would also like to thank Michael Toolan and Rob [McDonald, the new Sligo manager] for their co-operation and understanding.
“Finally I would like to thank the supporters of Sligo Rovers because in the last couple of weeks the support has been unbelievable.”

Why would O'Grady want to join Longford? Having to travel to Dublin for training, what kind of carry on is that?
I've said this before and I'll say it again, Longford are just like a Dublin team who play their home games in the Midlands.
By the way, who's he gonna get dogs abuse from? Martinho and about 4 others from Section O, he'll really hear that alright.

So you dont think its disresfectful to fcuk over a club like that???:mad:Not when it was to re-join his home town club and the club he's supported since childhood.
It's better for Longford now than if he had signed but did'nt play well ebcause he was missing playing for Rovers

if you were any good and you wanted to play for longford town but due to contract problems a deal couldnt be struck so you had to move away and try to find anoother club but suddenly (although you just trained with some other team) a great offer was put on the table to re join longford....what would you do?

Thats the least he could have done!!That interview was to sligorovers.com so he would hardly go into too much detail on his Longford dealings to a room full of Rovers members.
Elevenaside just copy and pasted it(as usual!)

What are you talking about. He could have said "i apologise for wasting longford towns time but im sure they will apprechiate my circumstances".Thats all it would have taken. Its hardly rivalry of the year sligoman!!

listen the guy was not 100% committed. we don't want players like that, we had enough last season.
away with him and best of luck.
remember we aren't the best when it comes to taking the word of a gentlemans handshake, we should have had him signed earlier.
Max me aul flower are you back for good now. I missed you there for a while with your attempts at humour but i think youl find im one of the select few talking sense on this board.
