Was talking to reporter this evening and he told me that he got this news this evening from a soccer reporter in dublin that a deal seemingly has been done where if shels somehow manage to stay in the premiere division that Alan Matthews and practically the entire Longford squad (or whats left of it by now) will jump ship to shels, if that happens then longford are also doomed ?

Meh. I'll believe it when I see it. Just like I'll believe previous reports about Mathews/Mahon/Mathews/Collins/di Stefano going to Shels.

Everything positive about Shels for the last while has been lies. Don't see a reason to believe anything positive about them unless it actually happens. Boy who cried wolf and all that.

Boy who cried wolf and all that.

That phrase sums up what I was thinking when I heard on the news Shels had given the FAI their proposals for clearing their debts. If they got there licence based on lies, how in hell can they be believed now, seeing as though they have massive debts and no players. But of course I forgot, its the FAI that are assessing them. So all the promises will be believed and when mid season Shels finally go bust the FAI will deny any responsibility.

How can the entire Longford squad jump ship to Shels? If they are under contract then surely Longford are entitled to transfer fees.

was thinking the same thing myself..
what would they get out of such a move?

id at the moment rather to play/manage for longford over shels without a doubt

It's been a very quiet plot if nobody here has heard anything about it. They've been training a few weeks now and picking up their wages so it sounds a bit unrealistic to me.You could expect one hell of a row if they tried that one

I am sure Matthews might leave but the claim that he'll take the Longford squad with him makes it hard to take serious.

From what I hear if Shels stay up I will be surprised it Matthews is not the new Shels manager and will also be surprised if there are not a few players going with him. Time will tell I guess.

So they'll get a point or two off Sligo, but get hammered by everyone else?

Didn't you say somethign similar about Pete Mahon being poised to take the job? ;)

He was poised to take the job, he admited that himself, then he changed his mind.

He's been finalising his coaching staff etc. this week, unless he's bringing all of them with him too?! One thing about Alan Mathews is that he's always been up front with the club and he hasnt said anything about leaving except that Shels have been asking him for months to come on board.Every time it's in the papers that he's about to be appointed it's Shels leaking it and not once has he said to the club, "I want to go to Shels". If Ollie is involved he won't go anyway.

Names? The majority of them are in the U.S. for winning last season's AUL A

Total Killester squad minus majority Killester squad = some of Killester squad.
It was a former Shels player who told me.

How can he bring Longford players with him when we're outside the transfer window? Many of them are still under contract with Longford.

i think matthews is an honest man. all this is just paper talk, matthews will honour his contract with longford,it suits his day job as well, shels would be too big a gamble.
