Has anyone seen Stan at any games in the Premiership or championship? Birmingham keeper Colin Doyle is the latest Ireland player to be 'overlooked'! by Stan. WTF is he doing. I would love to know how many games he attends.

Graham Coughlan was on NewsTalk a few weeks ago and said Stan was at the Sheffield Wednesday - Man City cup game, leading a few to believe (myself included) that Glen Whelan would get a call up

Well to be fair that's one of his first senior games starting for Birmingham. Hardly merits a place in the senior squad at this stage...
Although hopefully he keeps it going cause Henderson is a crock of sh!te

He's played seven games this year, which is seven more than Randolf, who was called up ahead of him. I don't think it's a big deal, but any stick to bash Staunton is being eagerly seized the past few days.

thats cos he's a fooking **** who dosent know his arriss from his elbow. more worrying is the fact that his so called mentor only speaks to him on rare occasions with regard to team selection etc.

Proof?
AFAIK he has been sub keeper for long time & only recently got a couple of starts...

Randolph was picked in the B game against Scotland and did enough in that to get a call up.

Doyle just said that he was ahead of Randolph in the U21s so he finds it strange that Randolph was picked ahead of him.

Must have been a while ago?
Quigley was U-21 keeper for the last year, ahead of Randolph. Quigley was suspended for a while, and some Wrexham keeper played twice, and I think Rovers' Barry Murphy was called up too. In 2005, Henderson was no. 1 for the 21s, and Quigley was back-up.

Doyle started the 2 most recent qualifiers against Belgium and Greece. Quigley was on the bench for one, Randolph for the other.

jaysus. Me heart bleeds! 400,000 a year which I'm sure he will hand back when he gets the bullet.

Hey, I'm not defending the useless sod. I'm just saying that if someone found out that he once slighted a 34 year old conference player whose grandad was born in Derry before Partition, it'd make the news in the tabloids now as "I'll never declare for Ireland while Stan's in Charge".
Yes, he's ****. No, making a debatable (as in not definitely wrong) choice of third choice keeper (when he was scraping the bottom of the barrel anyway) isn't that big a deal.

I thought that meself about Murphy's absence given the reports I'd read and S****horpes overall performance in League 1.... But after Given it really is a case of the best from a poor bunch in terms of Keeper cover.

Thats fair enough, don't think Randolph should have been called up either. Any one of Stack, Supple, Logan or Murphy should have been in there ahead of Colgan or Henderson but its worrying that a Birmingham sub-keeper is coming out in the media complaining about not being picked for the national squad. If he was a regular with a premiership club that was performing ok (e.g Geary for Sheff U) then maybe he has cause for complaint but he really had no reason to expect to be called up to the senior squad. No matter how incompetent our current manager is, I think its a worrying trend for Irish players who are borderline squad members at best coming out in the media and complaining about the manager not choosing them...

I wouldn't say he was complaining in fairness.

Instead of being scouting at the weekend saw him having a look around the shops with his wife last Friday in Dundrum.
Hopefully he got some sort of private jet back to England that evening instead of attending Croker on Saturday.

Apparently he's in Madeira at the moment with the U21s.

Regarding Derek Geary, I see he plays regularly for Sheffield United and has nailed down his place but in all fairness I don't know much about him.
Would he be a good left back for Ireland? John O Shea, well, I lose the will to live watching him play in green and Ian Harte, well he's just ****e. So is Geary is worth a shot?

left back does seem to be our main problem and has been for a while. harte shouldn't be in the squad; he contributes nothing defensively and has no pace and if we do have to play o'shea i think it should be as a centre back as the only time he seems to play reasonably is in that position. so the only real option is geary , if indeed he can play (well) in that position, otherwise there's nobody really

I'd like to see Geary given a chance. AFAIK O'Dea can play at left full as well.

Stephen Kelly had a good game there against the Czechs. Is he playing first team football these days? If he is, surely he's worth another go there.

Think he played last night for Birmingham after being injured on and off for a while....he was solid against the Czechs but would be another who is a rb by trade...

Sure he's a right back, but it's not like we're swimming in other options.
