Every Saturday night, the car park of the now defunct mart hosts a "cruise" event, where several modified cars take part in donut competitions, burnout competitions and generally driving "like they've stolen it." The best car there usually is the Garda Traffic Corps' Ford Mondeo ST220.

The sequel to the film "Nine Songs", one of the most controversial and ############ films ever made, was set to be filmed in Swinford. However, the filmcrew were run out of town by a mob of angry locals led by Canon Michael Joyce. When he found out there were no gay scenes in the film, he is said to have sworn loudly and ran after the film crew begging to come back. Whether this is true or not is up for debate.
