I have come up with an idea for a PS/XBox type game but was wondering how I would go about taking it a step further. Anyone have any ideas? Should I patent it first or just hawk it to Sony/Microsoft etc??

Hmm, reckon you should patent it first though I'm not an expert on these things.

Patenting is such a feckin pain in the ass! Have been trying to patent my dad's genius idea that would save everyone so much hassle for past 2 years & Solicitor is useless at helping! Gonna try and get a specialist patent lawyer to do it but that costs loads, so big risk.
Aw I dont know!

Its copyright, not patent. its treated as intellectual property rather than an invention. Think its easy enough to make official. Just write it down and get any lawyer to stamp it

Oh yeah forgot, still stuck in my dads "invention" mode! Yeah will do that! Cheers!

Games are very hard to develop and expensive to make for the new machines . I wouldnt worry about copyright as it makes no difference as your game can be ripped off in 2 seconds . it s like making a war movie and then trying to stop others making a similar movie .
if i was you id look into linking up with a developer rather than just pitch it to sony .

Put the idea in an envelope, post it by registered post to yourself and never open it until you get to court! Cheapest option. Viola - your idea! Then pitch it to the companies.

Yeah there is that option but an not sure how safe it is! I have all my ex-husband's bands original music still sealed....mite just sell it to some bands!
This game is kinda a combination of bits from other games that are around so shouldnt be hard to develop at all.

Well one thing is for sure you will have to team up with a Nerdywell . to write the programing or even find out what company made the games yours are based on and approach them .
If you need a beta tester i do the odd bit ,

microsoft dont develop games. neither do sony. if you are copying from "other bits of games" then this is not your intellectual property. It works the same as music. think the verve and the rolling stones here.
Finally, even "copying" bits of games together from C code etc, is extremely time comsuming and difficult. Game programming is extremely difficult, especially with 3d gaming engines and the like now. Not just any "nerdywell" can do it, you need to have the proper machinery too.
i dont mean to be off-putting but an idea in gaming is just that, an idea.
