From this weeks Sligo Champion

SLIGO Rovers will continue with the club's all full-time policy, it has been confirmed.

At last night's Annual General Meeting of the Sligo Football and Sport Development Society, Chairman, Michael Toolan, told shareholders that the Rovers Board had re-approved the decision by new manager, Rob McDonald, following a recent information night at which some supporters expressed disquiet at the move.

Former Secretary, Mr. Tony McGee, has called for a special Emergency General Meeting of members to take place at the earliest possible date to discuss the implications of the decision-particularly the need to generate extra funds.

Meanwhile, the financial fortunes of the club continue to improve.

Outgoing Treasurer, Mr. Fergal Keaveney, who stepped down at the A.G.M., reported that Rovers had shown a profit of €49,283 for the year ending on November 11th, with turnover increasing by sixty-five per cent to €869,887 and expenses of €820,604.

Elsewhere, Rovers will continue with their youth development programme and are forming official links with Sligo/ Leitrim youths.

Mr. Loman Gallagher replaced Fergal Keaveney as Treasurer at the first meeting of the new Board following the A.G.M., while Mr. Graham Monaghan was the only nomination received for election to the Committee.

Mr. Michael Toolan continues as Chairman, Tony Quinn as Vice-Chairman and Mary McGowan as Treasurer, with Dermot Brannigan, P.R.O.

With Tony Quinn, Michael Mooney, Brendan Byrne and John Chadda standing down under the rules of the Society, but seeking re-election, this left five nominees for five positions and all were returned.

The Rovers manager addressed the A.G.M. and revealed that former Shelbourne player, Greg O'Halloran, who was believed to have been on the verge of signing for the club, had opted instead to go on trial at a Scottish side. Another Shelbourne player, 18-year-old striker, Chris Malone, is on trial at the Showgrounds, McDonald said.

Michael Toolan, Tony Quinn and Mary McGowan were re-elected as Chairman, Vice-Chair and Secretary respectively at last night's (30 Jan) annual General Meeting held in the Radisson Hotel Sligo.

The remaining officers will be elected at a meeting next Monday night.

Outgoing Treasurer, Fergal Keavney, did not go up for re-election stepping down from his position on the Management Committee due to work commitments.

Fergal's place on the Committee is taken by Graham Monaghan and the new treasurer is Loman Gallagher, who has been Assistant Treasurer in recent seasons.

Keavney played a pivotal role in the continuing improvements to the finances of the club and his contribution was praised at the top table last night. sligorovers.com would like to add their thanks to Fergal who has been a consistent supporter of the official site in recent seasons.

A report of proceedings at the AGM to follow.

Cheers, just spotted that in the news section - good news Graham getting on the board, hopefully he is not shut out by stalwarts on the board (as I have been informed has happened with others).

Graham is a long time SUPPORTER and I would say that with him on the board we have a voice in there.

I could be wrong but does anyone remember the song he released when we got into the FAI Cup final against Derry??

Vaguely remember the song - he had it mixed in with noise from the shed!
