That is funny. Had a guy from Baton Rouge, Louisiana, with whom I used to work with. He asked me if we had trees in Ireland! I told him no, because the dinosaurs kept eating them. His response..."No wonder".

it's a pretty old premise that gag,....could probably do it in any country with the same results, plus, Australians and comedy don't add up.

True, I know some pretty thick Irish people too. Having said that the American knowledge of geography outside their own country is stunning in its scarcety. When I spent time in the states we hung out with some Texan girls. Pretty as they were they had never heard of Ireland and thought the Irish language was something we were making up to fool them. :D

Australians and comedy don't add up.The Paul Hogan Show begs to differ. Unusable now, but a classic in it's time.

And every single episode of every Australian soap, for that matter.

American knowledge of geography outside their own country is stunning in its scarcety. An American friend of my sister's was over to visit and in Galway my sister said to her; that's the Atlantic, straight across is New York. Her friend pointed across the bay and asked, 'Is that it, there?'.

From what I can gather it's a country of extremes in this area. They have the smartest and the dumbest people you'll ever meet.

That's a very old clip, but still horrendously funny!
Around the 6minute mark they get into a volley of rapid-fire stupidity:

-which state does KFC come from?
-what the chicken? I don't know
-well, do you know what KFC stands for?
-Kentucky Fried Chicken.

fookin priceless! BTW, in Quebec KFC is called PFK!

sorry, just watched a bit more of the video (7:08):

-how many Eiffel Towers are there in Paris?
-eh, I'd say about ten!

I'd say I saw it about ten times when we were beaten by PSG!! :o

It's PFK in other parts of Canada too, not just Quebec. Looked so funny when I seen the PFK take-away. :D

I asked my 9 yr old some of the questions from that clip such as a Country begining with the letter U (he said Uraguay) he knew pounds were currency in UK, he knew there was only one effiel tower, and he knew that KFC was from Kentucky! So in other words Irish kids are better educated that American adults.
