Hi all

Some of you may have noticed in the latter end of 2006 that I attempted to grow a beard.

It was all in aid of charity and to date I've secured €1160 in sponsorship for having it shaved off on 21 December.

Some people missed out on the opportunity of sponsoring me and if you wish I have set up a webpage where you can donate to the chosen charity, Headway, directly.

Headway provide services to my wife Lorraine who suffered a brain haemorrhage and stroke in April 2004 and are hugely under resourced, so every little helps.

Thanks in advance

John

I think enough people saw it and while there are a few photos available they are not something I'd wish upon the nervous amongst us.

And there was I thinking that you were growing it for a hair transplant! :D

Good luck with the fundraising.

Well I think if you're looking for money for a charity head/ beard shave the least you caould do is to show the pictures, before/ after shots etc...

No need to be confused.

I am not on a begging exercise, I am not one for seeking something for nothing and certainly not in this case.

There were enough posters here who saw me over the 90 days of growth and offered support and cash. I declined the money at the time..

Due to related circumstances I was unable to make arrangements to provide/distribute the sponsorship forms.

Offline, I collected €1160, some from supporters of eL clubs, some from players, some from managers and some from administrators along with donations by friends and neighbours.:D

How much do you want for a charity leg wax, before the Wales game in Croker? :D
I'd be willing to give you €5

I'd have no problem doing that Peadar. You arrange the venue, the beautician and I'll provide the leg(s) and sort out the publicity. However, you alone would need to make that a €50!:)

I have received a donation from a foot.ie user, Gary Keating from Navan. I do not know Gary and would like to thank him for his generosity.

I'll only pay €50 if I get to rip one of the wax strips off you. :D

I'll hold you to that.

There is one small problem that day - my best friends daughter went and arranged her wedding for that Saturday without consulting us!

Pressure is being applied on two fronts to attend the ceremony and the dinner. My instinct is to go to game as normal and arrive blind drunk late in the evening. Don't think I will get away with it somehow.

If it can't be arranged for the Wales game, how about the Germany tie?

I could go for that.
See what you can organise.

No worries, seems like good cause. Is that €50 for the other leg?

A signifcant donation of €1280 was received anonymously from the link on the St Pat's forum and I would like to thank the donor most sincerely and say my faith in mankind and fellow Saints has been vindicated.

To the anonymous donor a special personal thank you on behalf of, not only me but my wife Lorraine and Headway.

The cliche of every little helps is very true and in this case every euro and cent raised will go to providing something that perhaps we all take for granted, like a visit to the cinema or zoo, towards the cost of an art teacher or material needed for one client of Headway to finish a mosaic, or maybe the services of a counsellor to a family trying to come to terms with a loved one in their prime, falling victim to acquired brain injury for whatever reason.

I always subscribed to the old Bill Shakley theory that "football is a matter of life and death...I can assure them it is much more serious than that"

But at times in the past three years I have found it not to be true, yet this weekend a fellow football fan found it within themselves to give something to someone they never knew or met all in the name of being a Saint.

Thank you again

JB
