I was on the Schalke website and came across their club song:

Blue and White

Blue and white, how I love you
Blue and white, forever true
Blue and white is just like heaven born
Blue and white are the colours we have always worn
If we had a kingdom for us to make
It would resemble Schalke and no mistake
All the girls, oh so young and fair
Would sport a blue and white ribbon tied up in her hair
Mohammed was a prophet who
Knew nothing of football, that much is true
But of all the colours shining bright
The ones he thought up were our royal blue and white
A thousand fires in the night
Have brought us lots of pleasure and delight
A thousand friends all standing side by side
Will make sure FC Schalke will never die

I am not sure it will catch on in the Jacks - the reference to Mohammed is weird and probably will be a problem for our very right wing supporters. But we could change Mohammed to Ger Finnin easiy enough (I mean lyrically not literally). Its true about the women too. :)

you are inviting "witty" variations on the song from posters from other clubs, mainly Rovers, Galway and possibly Cobh. "Witty" of the "stab city" variety.

I think they all sing the German version - but they kindly put an English translation on the website as well. Cork City should think of putting an English translation of their chants on their site too. :)

But Ger Finnin (glad we're all spelling it correctly now :D ) is not a prophet and did not choose our blue and white colours :p What's with the Mohammed reference, have Schalke a muslim heritage?

I note that you didn't correct the bit about not knowing anything about football. :)

Dunno about the Mohammed reference - thought it was weird myself.

Not certain but I think they're one of the more leftie clubs in Germany and kind of revel in it a small bit.

Hey I'm willing to give being a far left fan a go this season :p

Has anyone from a Schalke supporters group been on to us begging for a twinning yet?? :)
