I see Harps are switching to 8pm Friday for home games. In my view it's something we should think about too. 8pm on a Friday with the new motorway is plenty of time for people driving down, and is also (iirc) late enough for anyone on the trains and buses from Dublin, Galway, Sligo etc.

Home attendances could hardly be hit much more, and it's a while since we've been the big overnight trip for away fans. In fact could get more on Friday. Even allowing for poor home form, summer football has been a disaster for attendances for us, but would there be less competition on a Friday night?

I spoke to board members about this and one thing stopping the club doing this is having to pay players for time taken off work for the games on friday nights, as thye have to take half days for the games in order to be there on time.

otherwise i agree with what you say.

However, Harps are using the players as one of the reasons why they're going to Friday nights. Maybe the standard contract will stop nonsense like this, if that is a genuine reason?

indeed macy, but do the harps players have to travel from a major city on a friday evening to get to a game 2 hours before kick off. i see the logistics side from the club but see great sense in what you are saying re contracts.

Just seems bizarre - we're already paying them to play football.

we are indeed but on a part time basis and thats where all this comes in, we do not have a right to them like full time player.
