There's been a few posts about players's stats in the "Players Abroad" thread, so it felt it was right to take a bigger look at them.

First off, Finnan is in the team of the season so far: http://www.premierleague.com/fapl.rac?command=forwardOnly&nextPage=teamOfTheSeason
He's the second best defender overall: http://www.premierleague.com/fapl.rac?command=forwardOnly&nextPage=actimTop5&type=Defender
For some reason, he's behind Gareth Barry, who I wouldn't consider a defender, and is the eighth best player overall
Steve Finnan (Liverpool) The Republic of Ireland international has been an ever-present member of the Reds' defence since the second game of the season and has helped Rafael Benitez's men keep nine clean sheets in their last 10 games.

Doyle is the fifth best striker: http://www.premierleague.com/fapl.rac?command=forwardOnly&nextPage=actimTop5&type=Striker and ninth best player over all

Looking at the top 100 players: http://www.premierleague.com/fapl.rac?command=forwardOnly&nextPage=actimTop100
Dunne is the 38th best player overall and the only other Irish player in the top 100. Dunne also has collected the most bonus points in the league, along with Sol Campbell.

Kilbane is joint fifth in assists, with 5.

Given has made half as many saves, 55, as the leader, Hanneman with 102. But since he was out injured that might be a bit misleading. If you look at minutes per save, he has made one on average ever 29.09 minutes, which is one of the best in the league. As a comparison, Van Der Sar makes one every 22.5 minutes and Lehmann makes one every 23.85 minutes. Considering the flak the Newcastle comes in for, that's very surprising.

So what does that tell us? Err, I've no idea!
Other than Doyle, Finnan, Given and Dunne are our most consistent players in the Premiership, and Kilbane might be a surprise choice on the left wing against San Marino not a lot.

Thoughts and opinions?

It sounds like an import from the states - Soccer Ball Actim Stats!!! :)

May be of some use as an indicator of trends - but I think some old fashioned personal deduction and discernibility is best way of figuring out if a player is performing or not.

There are some qualities on the pitch that make a positive contribution to a team that are not so easily quantified.
