Great product but very expensive for what you get.
Lenovo are making a top quality product in China, after buying the rights for the IBM ThinkPad.

From all the stories I've heard, Sony and Apple are the best for laptops, and the prices reflect it. Except for you, you jammy ****.

As a light home user, my Inspiron 1300 does the job, although I need to buy an external hard drive to free up some space that's being taken up with music and eh, other media.

Nothing specific to tell you, wws but they're a good laptop.
You know that I deal with corporate customers so we'll never have much to do with Sony. They're not business machines, like the HP NC series or the ThinkPad.

Your choice depends a lot on what you want to do with a laptop. There is no big mystery with laptops, its the quality of the components that matter.
We have a Sony vaio. First impression, I liked the screen and still do. You are going to be looking at it a lot. For me, that's the first priority. Laptop components are not radically different. Though the Sony comes out quite good there, it's light enough and has a nice shape, doesn't heat up, quiet hard drive, fan is quiet, doesnt need a lot of cooling down. So far its been used as the cheap family whore. The bit on the side to be used by everybody when all else is occupied. Its been dragged around by the kids to school and god knows where.
The screen is still good, carefull cleaning and basic awareness does it good. IMO its a much better than the Dell equivalent.
The Sony I bought 18 months ago didn't have its own graphic memory,
came with a lot of preinstalled sh!tty useless software which takes a while to unglue. The default battery is low end.
Personally I dont like Windows, I use Macs most of the time, they're much cheaper and more stable than their windows computer equivalent.
