Was chatting to a mate of mine yesterday who is playing with ATFC and he was saying that the galway players have settled well up there. they had a fitness tests yesterday morning and mixie and dowdy finished u near the top. as can be imagined R.Frawley was a good bit behing both of them.
All 3 were good servants of galway united in their time and i wish them all the best this year, even if they are playing with de town

I'd say Athlone will be strong next season, they've picked up a few handy players and with the hype that should surround them moving into their new ground they could be challengers. Best of luck to all the ex United players (except Rossiter)!

I didn't realise either Mixie or Ronan had gone to Athlone.
They've already signed Davy Byrne, Paul McTiernan and of course Dowdy. They have to be pretty strong dark horses now for Division 1.

Ya i really hope they go hope....largely cause of most of the ex GUFC players they have but also because of the prospect of having derby's against Sligo and Athlone in the Premier....the crowds and atmosphere would be mouth watering.

Athlone are hopefully a Premier Division team waiting to happen and they've done fantastic work to get their new ground. It is a football town through and through; when they do well, there'll always be a decent interest. They have far more potential than Longford, who seem to be really struggling financially (which is only logical).

Athlone would be a far better addition from the midlands than Longford.
No fans and no potential.Longford have done well in recent times but it's too much of a GAA stronghold.
Mind you they're useless at that too.

Great stuff Ash, if these two new lads are decent, that's a very good squad for Division 1.
I'm looking forward to seeing the new ground, Tom Burke and the lads have done a super job.

Ah no that's a pretty old pic.

The ones below are basically as up-to-date as you'll get, bar little things like the tarmac down behind the back of the stand and the perimeter fence around the pitch itself etc. I have some more from a few weeks ago that I might get up later, but the light wasn't great on the day so they're not the best.
