Nice kit pity it doesn’t have stripes I heard there was a choice of kit the other one was meant to be a hooped one I presume it was this one (http://www.jako.co.uk/images/4238_05.jpg) so?

The shirt looks rank, should stick to the stripes.

I like it a lot.Prefer it to the striped one that was linked above

Yeah, that link above to the hooped kit is correct and its cat. The new one is nice,i think that maybe the pic posted by Brewer is the wrong shade but i can't be certain.

hooped jersey is cat&imitation celtic jersey from 01/02. new one looked mint. meetin was good enuff apart from 1st hour of every1 reapeating the same thing over and over and over again about conor o'grady. some good ideas for fund raising including poker classics, dinner dances etc. they said that there will be a few friendlies out in the sticks as well. thought this was a good idea when they did it 2 years ago and went to both games but ended up watching half ballymote game in the car cos of weather & most of ppl at arrow harps game were ppl who'd be in showgrounds anyway. some1 sed that rob's signing 8 and that a few of em were only a matter of puttin pen to paper&that they prefer they unveil em in groups so that they can do justice to sponsors at press conferences

WE HAD AN IDENTICAL HOOP JERSEY TO THE ONE POSTED ABOVE IBN THE 1990'S.

STICK TO TRADITION, THE JERSEY SHOULD HAVE BEEN STRIPES.

I'm open to correction but i can only recall maybe one or two kits in the last 15 years that have actually used stripes so its not like its a break from tradition

When I first started following Rovers it was stripes and the same for the team that won the League in '77.

Ya I know what you are saying Gustavo and you are right I just think the club should stick to the stripes

The non stripes jerseys, from memory, really started getting going in 89/90 if I remember rightly with the SPALL all red gear.

Before anyonme jumps in I know we had a solid red jersey in the 80's (with a tiny white stripe through it) as well, my point being that since 89/90, as Gustavo points out, most of our jerseys have been of the non striped variety!!

The multi coloured black red whitehome and black red green away in 93/94 under McStay and we had the red hoops when Nicky Reid was in charge.

For me Rovers should take the pitch wearing stripes, it (was/is) one of our distinctive features as a club IMO.

I dont think we needed to deviate (not 15 years ago and not now again after reverting to stripes for the last while)from the stripes, from memory Derry never have!!

gustavo
10/01/2007, 10:49 AM
I too prefer the stripes and think the old kit we had the last two years was the best we had in years but is not the nickname of the club the Bit'O Red because we always had a bit of red in the jersey of differing amounts ?

Anyone remember the pink/red shirt from circa 89/90 first divison ,defo was the worst ever.

the jersey was probably the least important issues dealt with last night....enough of the fashion talk ladies:p

there were so many positives from last night..the only major negative was the local players and every damn point had to go back to conor o grady and mc namara...it got really tedious...at one point i just wanted to shout out mac has gone back to gaa and it aint the biggest loss but thank god toolan eventually told people to stop bringing it up

just bring back o grady..its all we ask rob!

the ideas of a dinner dance and a poker tournament were great..especially the latter....

everyone had ideas....and all of the committee want help..whether its because they are ****ed already financially and arent telling us and the "lets take it the next level" is just a smokescreen for "we are in trouble and we need help" is something i still have a suspicion about...still no matter what the reason its good for the club

i just hope that the people who have the ideas are actually listened to and they actually follow through with it then...

best idea was giving people back change at the gate when they pay for their ticket....genius!

ps...tommy gorman....worth the tv licence alone!

Initially they mainly came under fire for the change in policy & the loss of McT, O’Grady & Mackey the members present took this on board and will discuss it at the next board meeting. Then in turned into a think tank on Fund raising, at the end 2 options for the new jersey were presented, the revealed that they currently have 14 players on their cards and are in talks with 8 more and some are very close to signing, Singh is one of those players still on the cards. They could not discuss the Connors issues for legal reasons.

This is more or less what i heard to WR about the meeting sure Mac is already back playing the GA, i would love to see Conor come back though.

But Finacially they made a profit last year be it only for the cup run. Hopefully we can see some new faces on the MC this year as well.

we were probably lucky last year as you say..the lotto went to 11k as well and that made a hell of a lotta money...

i think its a big opportunity for the supporters trust in response to your next sentence...they committee kept saying they want help...this is the chance

Thats the SPALL jersey I mentioned above.

Never mind the jersey the tracksuit was cotton and also very light red and the thing had Zips up the side of a cotton tracksuit bottom - absolutely rank. The crest was printed on the back of the top and faded after one wash.

But did I care at the time when running around footie training in it - did I hell.

John Kents finest before the fancy Jako days!!

the ideas of a dinner dance and a poker tournament were great..especially the latter....

If they get those ideas running along with say another Golf Day outing and a few tournaments that utilise the astro pitch as much as the can (i.e. tournaments bring entry fees and all that) they should have a few more quid in the bank.

We all want to see Rovers in a healthy position and doing well so heres to the future.

I'll be looking to make an appearance at the poker tournie, hopefully texas holdem and not draw poker.

They should approach the casino and do it in style (fine casino), both the casino and rovers could stand to benefit. If the casino ran a benefit tournie it might draw more punters into the casino.

Was not at meeting but my father was he, said the canystrip jersey was not registered and could not be used.

Like the new one the hoops jersey is foul, You know what they say about hoops they add pounds, don't think it would have done Foy any favours.

You're right I don't know who will pick up these duties, certainly if I was back living I sligo and been a poker player i certainly would think about approaching the club to be able to setup an event or a series of poker events.

You could set up events in pubs around the town to qualify for an final event which could be held in a nice venue such as the casino. You could even give out season tickets as part of the prize fund which would generate more sales.

Funny that only a couple of people mentioned McT and nobody at all mentioned Flannery when they were repeatedly talking about bringing local players back (cue someone criticising Flannery). Mary McGowan said there are 5 local players on the books: Emlyn Mulligan was one of the ones mentioned, first of all is he local being from Leitrim? And secondly he won't be going full time to the best of my knowledge but will still play under 21. Though i'm not sure about that either as he plays gaa for the I.T. and will probably play with the Leitrim seniors too.

Only1Rovers

So what if he's from Leitrim, there are Rovers fans in Leitrim, McT is from Roscommon and he's still local...

so this meet was bsically to put forward fundraising ideas and vote on a new jersey ? did they ask for people to get involved in running the club or was it just the same help on matchdays request ?

dont know about anyone else opinion but why do we change jersey so much. other clubs might change jersey but dont deviate so much to a completely diferent jersey style. we must put out more jerseys than any other club !! and i'm not entirely sure it's benefiting the club all that much

gret idea on the poker if someone get's it organised. it must be the no 1 staying in activity at the moment. having a series of heat's and a final over a period of weeks in the casino would be great. i'd stay away from having heat's in pubs as u'll always get couple pubs who get left out and then getting miffed over it. plus the casino doesnt serve alcohol, which may entice a wider array of people.

did anyone ask why all this could not have been discussed at the AGM ? dont suppose anyone suggested having AGM or future meetings like this on a weekend ? did anyone ask why it was a restricted meeting ?

Sorry for all questions, just very hard to know what going on at the club when exiled !!

Derry were unhappy with us wearing candystrips and there was somthing said about our striped jersey not having been registered. Seems there was pressure to get rid of the strips, sad I liked 'em.

Ah no O1R, but just chatting my mate who was there last night and he said that Jacko could not produce a design for a stripped jersey for next season. But sure if a club could trademark a style of jersey sure most team would be playing without a jersey.

Look the club isregistered with the FAI or with the League (as was the case in the past) as wearing Red jersey, White shorts and red socks. Derry took Rovers up on this saying, that we should not be wearing candy-stripes if we're not registered to wear them.

2 Small Points:

1. Is it not the role of the Commercial Manager to raise funds/money for the club and to come up with ideas on how to do same?

2. If Jako cant supply Rovers with a striped jersey and that's the jersey the club prefers (for whatever reason), then why doesn't the club get a different supplier that can supply the jersey?

Only1Rovers
11/01/2007, 3:08 PM
You are obviosuly making this up as you go along, great quote from Derry thrown in as well !! :D Look Bravo was at it and he has even told you what was said. If it was only Red Jerseys that we could wear why did the Club offer us a Red and White Hoop jersey ? It is because Jako could not supply us with the Striped Jersey.

jaco can supply us with striped jersey, why would they stop making red and white candy striped jerseys??? The hooped one was offered as a possibility because no other club would have a problem with it. You tell me what colours the club had registered with the league. These are not my words they came from an ex-secretary of the club while in conversation. It was not explained to the whole attendance of the meeting. Your taking this little matter seriously, wha?

Well i've got three of them and Feo123 has one too so maybe we could still use them. (This'll only work if we sign 2 players called Burns and one called O'Grady though) :D

A club the size of rovers could not to have a special shirt specialy designed, cost way too much... I think. Portsmouth pick there jersey from the catalog as far is I know.
