The Bolivian fella is training with Wexford. Haven't seen him in action yet though.

be interesting to see how he does. i definitely thought there was somethin there but he needed a good coach and some confidence. he's an awfully nice guy so hopefully it works out for him

Greg Strong, former Youth and Schoolboy England international.
A centre half is whats needed and with a name like Greg Strong he must be good.

Yeah,he was ok. Didn't stand out but did ok. He's not the next Liam Burns like some people think

gustavo

He done ok , a bit better than McKenzie , I thought Peers was solid and Kelly too. The goalie was a bit poor in distribution and wasnt overly impressive , still its only one game.

well strong is about 31 so its good to get a bit of experience in the squad he was playing against celtic last year in the spl, true the team he was playing for lost 5-0 but you never know

"Greg could be a potential signing. With his experience and everything he could be someone to rely on. Even though I thought he got turned a little too easily for the 2nd goal..... you cannot judge someone one goal and his coaching and leadership was there. You could see with Gino the difference from Junior football. His best position was on the left and I did not want him on the left , I kept telling him to get to get in the middle beside Choice. I brought him in for a reason and he has got to realize that. There were moments and he nearly scored with a stabbed shot.Gino certainly has got something. It is difficult to tell on one game. It is something we have to have a good look at and the more he trains with us the more it should benefit him and we will see how he shapes up in the following games"

Gino is a pure gentleman but I'm not sure will he make it at this level-full time training will definitely help .This out on the left bit has me confused.

thought Strong looked good! Not a new Burns definetely, but close enough!

he has a tendancy to hold on to the defender though..
think he looks good though

I didnt think he looked any worse than Choice

gustavo
19/02/2007, 3:59 PM
Could be !But just saying that he isnt any worse than whats at the club presently , and is definitey an option , however we badlly need a different type of striker a nippy goal poacher a Paul McTiernan type if you will!

A player of that sort is very hard come by in the league, especially such a striker who is commited and wants to do their best for a club. You'd have to be mad to let someone like that go.

Quote from the manager RE Paul McTiernan

"I made contact with Paul McTiernan, but he told me that he didn't wish to play with Sligo Rovers"

Rob says after the Monaghan match

"We just need some new players to beef us up and give us some umph".

I think you could be onto somthing Rob...

Heard a rumour down here that choice has walked out of the club after a training ground bust up left him with a broken nose! Any truth ?

Only1Rovers
21/02/2007, 11:29 AM
Dont know how true it is yet, was in one of the papers, but dont know which one. If Choice has gone we will be left with a total of zero strikers at the club. Looks like Gino might get his place in the squad afterall. Looks like I might get a place in the squad!

it looks to have been a little piece of mischief here on foot.ie, however, the content and allegations are too serious to ignore and I've asked admin to ban those responsible.

rumours have been quelled..its rubbish and it was obvious by the way the article was written

its the kind of thing that happens here and its outrageous that people can discredit and darken the name of the club with such pointless, slanderous stories....

Did the story actually appear in a newspaper, or just on this forum?

By all accounts the story came out of the posters head and if confirmed will definitely be a banning offence.

I'm amazed that nobody has been signed from Holland. Galway have just signed a striker from Holland. http://www.galwayunitedfc.ie/squad/nooitmeer-signs-2-year-deal.html

You would think that having spent so many yearsthere that Rob would have plenty of contacts and players in mind.

hes a centre back actually or can also play at right-back. He looks like one of uniteds best signings, excellent player.

I think if he was that good he would be playing in Netherlands still. I've been to Dutch 2nd division games and the standard is pretty poor tbf.

gustavo
27/02/2007, 4:42 PM
Well if the standard is pretty poor then maybe he is moving up in his career by coming here.

True. But you have more of a chance of getting noticed by a bigger Dutch club there than in Galway. I've never seen him play so cant really judge.
