Not been a great year for cinema in my eyes, especially if you go on Johnaton Ross' Film of 2006 show last night, but if I was to come up with a top ten of the year it would go a little something like this,

1. Little Miss Sunshine
2. The Departed
3. Little Children
4. Three Burials
5. Borat
6. Casino Royale
7. An Inconvenient Truth
8. A Scanner Darkly
9. Children of Men
10. Zidane, a 21st Century Portrait

Even looking at my top ten I only love the first four of my top ten, so unless I'm forgetting someone that list sums up 2006 in the cinema for me. Granted I haven't yet watched Stranger Than Fiction, L'Enfant, Pan's Labyrinth, The Prestige, For Your Consideration, or Brick yet though

Borat is definitely the best film I've seen this year.

The Departed for me was the best. I also enjoyed Casino Royale. A great "popcorn" movie with a great opening sequence.

In no particular order, Casino Royale, Borat, Little Miss Sunshine, Flushed Away, The Departed, the Da Vinci Code, Superman Returns and I enjoyed MI:3 and Night at the Museum (not sure why) although no way would they make a favourites poll!!!

the best movie i saw all year was The Wind that shakes the Barley
bloody brilliant, the best thing about it was the acting, so natural

i also liked Inside Man, the spike lee bank robbery movie, with a cool hidden political slant in it, i really like his movies as he always puts in political stuff into it, even if its not connected entirely to the story

can anyone tell me if Children of men was any good, since i might get it soon

and did anyone see Clerks 2?

I had/have a problem with the way Ken Loach portrayed pro-Treaty Irishmen as traitors in that movie, hench it didn't make my list. It was well acted and well shot but I don't think Loach should have come down on one side of the Irish fence like that

actually i think Loach did a good example of showing how the irish Civil war was a complex thing, dividing families, and showing it wasnt an easy decision for BOTH sides

you might want to remember but this country is still partioned!:)
which kind of says something about the point of the movie (to me anyway!)

Walk The Line was good, i was really surprised by the acting in it, considering!

I wasnt surprised by the acting at all in Walk the Line , you could hardly pick a better pair of young actors than Phoenix and Witherspoon

It may have been made in 05 but I'm fairly sure The Squid and the Whale would have only hit these shores in 06. For anyone who likes films such as Little Miss Sunshine, get this soon.
