The Bohs forum (http://thebohs.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=1288) reports that the Mirror of yesterday reports that Seán Dillon has sent a solicitor's letter to the club seeking a cancellation of his contract. Presumably this is to do with non-payment of wages. Interesting to see what comes of this.

Was he not strongly linked with Dunfermline or Motherwell or someone?

It was Christmas day and you got excited by the news that the Bohs forum reported that the mirror reported something that may mean a player leaves Shelbourne ?
Is that as good as your christmas got Stu ????
Is this really news ??

Sorry, it's alright, it's alright! Nothing is going wrong in the fairyland world of Shels, and a national newspaper reporting that a player is about to test legal waters which would open the way for the whole squad to depart for free is obviously baloney.
I also don't recall saying I was excited by the news. "Interesting" was the word I used, which it is. I think you're making stuff up again in order to fan the flames of your conspiracy theory theory.

Actually this is news, whether you choose to spin it or not. When Foley went down this road with Bohs it got loads of attention from here and the media. Its rare a player has to do this in any professional league in Europe to get his wages, let alone the league champions.

Nothing to see here.........move along people....etc.
Higgins, it is newsworthy as it indicates that Shels predicament would appear not to have improved and more crucially a lot of the players have no faith that it will improve in the near future.
I remain disappointed (but not surprised) that there hasn't been any proper investigative journalism done by anyone on the Shels situation.
Nobody, or at least I haven't seen anyone, answer the $64,000 question,
why a club with a highly valuable asset which it can draw down against has had so many cashflow problems recently?
A few sample questions I would be digging into:
Have the option holders stopped the drawdown and if so, why?
Is Tolka not worth as much as people thought it was?
Is it simply that Shels are caught in the vicious circle of not being able to sell Tolka until they have a ground and not being able to get a ground until they sell Tolka?
There are a few nods and winks from the usual suspects on here which seem to indicate they are "in the know" but I'm none the wiser and if I was a Shels fan in the same position (as I understand many are) I would be very worried.

Is this news? Of course it's news! How often have you seen a championship medal-winning footballer forced to sue his own club to release him?
IMO, Shels have done very well, mediawise, on their failure to pay players, and in particular the galling cutting off of wages following the league win. If it happened anywhere else they'd be hung out to dry by the league and by the press.

It was more to do with the post on Christmas Day getting a UCD fan 'interested' ...
As a Shels fan this issue never crossed my mind Christmas Day. I was pointing out just how much Shels issues 'interest' people these days.
I'd also wait for more information on what is happening before I went down the road of what the outcome may be.
So far we are going on an article from the mirror, right ? It may be true or it may not be true, I don't know but I just didn't think it was that important for a UCD fan. Seems I was wrong, it was that important for Bohs Derry Rovers and UCD fans :)
If it leads to a massive walk out at Shels then fair enough, I actually think I'd be happy at that outcome.

would a player not be a automatic free agent if his wages were not paid for a number of weeks would the terms of his contract not be broken thus ending his committment

What Rovers fans?

Yes but the club still hold the players registration, im not sure how that works but the player can leave and sign for another club but the non paying club can hold his registration its a Bosman waiting to happen.

no as the eircom league and the clubs both hold his papers. he can go and get a release from the league should he wish and any player with a brain would but really theres no rush to find clubs as any player can find a club right up to the last week in Feb

It would but there was other dealings that went on at shels over the course of the season...
Dillon is in the same boat as many of the other players and he seems to be the one who has jumped first. Not any great surprise as he would be one of the players who has most to gain from being 'out of contract'.
What happens now is speculation as not many people know what exactly happened between shels and the players over the season regarding wages and what agreements they came to.
This could drag on.................
Stu will have a great few weeks ahead of him :p

Again I was getting at the fact Stu wet himself on christmas day about a half story from that Shels were in more trouble....
It just being mean laughing at us now, you've all had your fun move on ;)
If this thing does grow and becoms more than just a story on a bohs forum about a mirror story it will of course have a big impact on all so called "under contract" players at shels but on Christmas Day
anyway....
I DON'T have my head in any sand,,,
I can assure you of that.

I don't usually respond these days to threads, but this hea din sand thing irks me a bit.
The suggested Shels fans "head in the sand" situation on foot is pretty much down to the fact that when fans of a club are talking about their own club to their own people, they will ask the questions and they will complain and gripe, but the moment a fan from another club attempts to join in, natural rival instincts kick in and the urge to counter anything a rival fan says triggers off. Its like I can call a familymember a ******** but if anyone outside the family does I'll jump down your throat in an instant :)
The league is a small place regarding news and everyone knows players and managers and club workers, but for that same reason plenty of gossip and rumourmongering is spread. A lot of stories I hear about Shels and other clubs usually have a sniff of truth with a bag load of bull**** attached. Shels are not in a healthy position, fans are asking plenty of questions, but they are not posting int on foot or even Shelsweb but just because:
1) Shels fans have not posted their every thought on a public forum
2) Shels fans have not done a Rovers and tried to take over the club, which would be probably more difficult to do and possibly also insane
does not mean that Shels fans have heads in sand. Of course we will defend our club to rivals whilst at the same time probably asking the same questions you expect to be asked!!!

I wet myself? You might point out where. I already talked you out of "excited", but you don't seem to be too worried about facts.
I fail to see the relevance of Christmas Day, to be honest. I was letting the Christmas dinner settle over a quick checking of my e-mail and the various club forums to see if anyone else was after our players. If you want to get excited about that, fair enough. But again, you're just making stuff up to be excited over.
A half story? I don't think this could possibly be a half story when a player and a course of action are named in a national newspaper, as everyone ese bar you on this thread has acknowledged. "Is this really news?" Honest to God...

Hmmm... I suggest Pineapple Stu and Higgins both start rivalling bebo pages, building up a gang just in time for next season and organise a big standoff between each other. All the kids are doing it....

... Well certain people at Tolka Park do not want our club even to be in the League. Fact remains we are , according to the IAG, the second best club off the field in the current season. According to the PFAI we are the best as regards prompt payment of player's wages, so yes it is interesting to us fans of a smaller club which is well run, to witness the so-called biggest club in the country being so badly run. :D
